I think that after twenty years of scything cuts and demonstrative cruelty, we can conclude that this system is not intended to improve the lives and wellbeing of citizens.

Debating whether Black people are intellectually inferior is eugenics and does not qualify as a legitimate point of 'academic debate'. It is an obscene position that has justified enslavement, empire, murder and the exploitation of millions of people.

Welcome news today that one of the Government’s ‘everyday fixes’ is to end the Carer’s Allowance cliff edge – a damaging design flaw that we @resolutionfoundation.org have previously called on it to fix, and that will disproportionately benefit the bottom half of the income distribution. A thread…

It was also Arab scholars that preserved a huge amount philosophy, science, & literature from Ancient Greece. Nearly all the texts we have from then would otherwise have been lost to the world. Much of the Classical culture racists claim to venerate, they only know about because Arabs preserved it.

AI data centres are likely to be obsolete in a few years, so what happens to the sites? Planning consents required opencast coal operators to pay into escrow accounts to fund eventual restoration of sites to green end uses. Should such obligations be placed on data centre consents?

Microsoft wants to build three massive AI data centres in Leeds. It’ll drain thousands of litres of water from the River Aire and become the city's biggest carbon emitter. We can still stop the council's final sign-off, but we need more voices. Add your name: you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/pr...

What will happen is the Crown Court backlog will fall and will be held up as a success story. But, beneath it, will be a log-jammed Magistrates’ Court, with a traffic jam of human misery. That’s not what success looks like.

Second, have a think if Magistrates (respected, trained, advised) should be locking citizens up for up to 2 years. Honestly, just think about it. It’s ok to say it out loud. I’ll go first: Volunteers - even trained and experienced and respected ones - should not be doing that.

How much of the world’s proven coal, oil and gas (i.e. already found, pays to extract at today’s prices) can still be burned for a 66% chance of holding 2 °C? About 30%. The other 70%, 2,040 billion tonnes of CO₂, are stranded assets. Burn it all and CO₂ alone means roughly 2.7 °C Purple = added
