If the real priority was actually protecting girls from actual men who pose a risk to them in sports, it would make much more sense to advocate for banning male coaches and male doctors. And I’ve never, ever ever heard that suggestion, because that’s not really what this is about.

Samantha Brennan@samanthabrennan.bsky.social

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

Whenever I feel guilty for not subscribing to the WR Record, it does something like quote a WRDSB trustee candidate who's a *residential school denier* as though he's a normal person.

Sharing this again because some of the WRDSB trustee candidates are scarier than anything else I've seen this Halloween season:

"Citified" is an amazing public service, and I'm proud to be part of it. Also, if you live in Waterloo Region, I wrote about this year's WRDSB trustee candidates to help you vote for the ones who *aren't* Christian Nationalists:

Toronto bike lane removal. When your infrastructure project has huge police protection and the contractors hide the logos on their trucks and gear, you are in the wrong.

Sean Marshall@seanyyz.bsky.social

In the end, the lanes come out.

I need someone to give me room to write about this moment in anti Muslim hate because there’s a reason Nidal Hassan is who is being killed by live firing squad. And it’s the same reason Ilhans house was raided.

Abolish ICE.

Aminata Seck has been freed. "I'm just ready to go back to school, get my master's and get this surgery done,” she said. ICE kept her in pain in detention for two months for no reason. www.espn.com/womens-colle...

the Vice President of the United States has gone on record citing this man as one of his biggest intellectual influences if you didn't know this, it's probably because for some reason literally no mainstream political media outlets think it's worth mentioning

Love to see the Zionist NYT letting gross antisemitism go unchallenged. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Joel S.@joelhs.bsky.social

The reason we need more religious studies education is because the "New York Times" can just allow someone to say in an interview that wokeness is like the Old Testament, which supposedly has no forgiveness, and the assertion goes unchallenged.

"It’s been a few days since this vicious piece appeared, yet no-one in the mainstream media or political class has denounced or even commented upon the piece—except for one Liberal politician, Salma Zahid, who had her car in her driveway set on fire."—Judy Rebick

The Breach@breachmedia.ca

Avi Lewis is a Jewish politician refusing to be silent about Israel’s genocide—and now he’s being threatened with violence. @judred.bsky.social writes that the lack of uproar reveals just how powerful the pro-Israel consensus remains among Canada’s elite. breachmedia.ca/im-familiar-...

Thread. Still disgusted by how @thebigstory.bsky.social laundered this crap.

1/9 We cannot accept the findings of the federal CASE report. The methodology is fundamentally broken. Its data is highly questionable, but the resulting political weaponization is actively harmful. We unpack why for @canadiandimension.bsky.social. canadiandimension.com/articles/vie...

There's a decent argument that this column violates the criminal code prohibition against inciting violence. The thing he's accusing Lewis of is also how Yitzhak Rabin's killer tried to 'justify' his actions - removing other Jews to 'protect' the Jewish people. This is sick, and a shanda.

Some very normal stuff from the former editor in chief of the Canadian Jewish News

The National Post is using language that seems wildly irresponsible and dangerous here Citing ancient “Jewish law,” it labels Avi Lewis as a “rodef” The ultranationalist extremist who assassinated Yitzhak Rabin rationalized his killing on the same basis: www.theguardian.com/world/2020/o...

The National Post publishes a piece suggesting people need to use "Jewish Law" to "deal" with Avi Lewis This can only really be interpreted in a threatening manner. nationalpost.com/opinion/yoni...

"There is currently no public evidence linking Ward to the pro-Palestine movement or any views about Israel or Zionism." Blaming the Belleville attack on antizionists is NONSENSICAL.

Alex Cosh@alex.readthemaple.com

NEW: Pro-Israel voices have suggested that anti-Zionism, the pro-Palestine movement and “anti-Israel” policies were responsible for causing the Belleville attack. There is no public evidence to support any of these claims. www.readthemaple.com/how-pro-isra...

On the *same day* the Cornell Seven drugged and raped Jane Doe, Cornell banned four students (including the President of Cornell JVP) from campus for three years for nonviolent, pro-Palestine protests. The same Cornell officials let the rapists off with apology essays.

I like that in becoming a nazi, you get glowing coverage as a brave iconoclast, and then when you stop being a nazi, you’re get glowing coverage as a brave dissident. Money coming and going. Only way you lose is having normal opinions like “racism bad” bsky.app/profile/trac...

Rob Tracinski@tracinski.bsky.social

OK, Washington Post, enlighten me. What is the bright side of being a Nazi?

Thread.

This misses any analysis of what the term “Zionism” constitutes. You can always find bad-faith antisemites using “Zionist” as a replacement for “Jew,” but conflating anti-Zionism w/ antisemitism under that flimsy justification is bad-faith reasoning that assumes the conclusion.

Every time @cornelluniversity.bsky.social makes the news, I'm more embarrassed to be an alum.

Andi Zeisler@andizeisler.bsky.social

A woman was drugged, raped, and sexually trafficked to members of a fraternity. Two of the men involved were expelled. Five were given the opportunity to mitigate suspension by *writing an essay.* The dozens of other men who knew this was happening and said nothing? You already know the answer.

Luke LeBrun@lukelebrun.ca

Canada's former ambassador to Israel pens article in National Post, claims without evidence there is a "direct link" between "Free Palestine" activists and the shooter in Belleville Then admits she she didn't read the multiple news reports identifying the shooter as a COVID-19 conspiracy theorist

This is what happens when society ignores the far right while criminalizing people who are actually on the side of peace and safety.

"But it seems just as natural that scores of American Jews have their eyes open, are disgusted with what they’ve seen, and don’t think the country should be cloaked in a 'cannot be accused of genocide' protective blanket just because they feel connected to it."

There are already articles circulating trying to rewrite history and say America was great after 9/11 and united and thoughtful and just a reminder that that period was marked by intense and insanely racist hatred, paranoia, and a frothing desire for unhinged violence and oppression.

Why is our head of government making a PragerU video

Rachel Gilmore@rachelgilmore.bsky.social

Disturbing, offensive, but perhaps fitting that Carney is seeking (much like far-right groups!) to rehab Sir John A’s reputation into that of a Great Uniter, rather than someone who engaged in horrific crimes against Indigenous people and Chinese immigrants (in part to build this project!)

This excellent overview doesn't mention one thing, which is that it's highly likely (but has not been proven in acourt of law) that then-Ontario Premier Mike Harris was personally responsible for ordering the attack and took no heed of the risk of injuries and deaths. He was never held accountable.

No starker example of the media having different rules for each political party. If the press treated Elon Musk like Hasan Piker, every Republican in America would be forced to answer questions about why their party's biggest donor espouses anti-semitic race science.
