The Jordan-Wigner transform! You can map spin operators to fermionic operators. Super useful in quantum computing and quantum chemistry. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jordan%...
Pascual Jordan and Eugene P. Wigner's 1928 Z.Phys. article "About the Pauli exclusion principle" inspirehep.net/literature/1... reaches 2,000 citations. This may be the new most extreme example of a sleeping beauty.

Here's a slice of Young's lattice — integer partitions with at most m pieces each of size at most n — as a little Sunday treat: e-infinity.space/young-lattice/ It's built as the quotient of the Boolean lattice Bₘₙ by the action of 𝔖ₘ≀𝔖ₙ ≤ 𝔖ₘₙ. 🧮

Those of you who are old-school enough may remember #TMWYF during pandemic times, where I first learned of @visualalgebra.bsky.social's project! www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHZI...
💥 Some personal news 💥 Visual Algebra is finally DONE! I just sent off an 820-page pdf to the editor. Almost exactly 7 years after I started. The zip file that contains the 100+ plain text LaTeX files and nothing else is a whopping 5.4 MB. Now onward to Volume 2! #MathSky

My guy, if YOU’RE not going to read your paper, I’M not going to read it.
interestingggg.... paper on the arXiv tonight of a new planet candidate found with and written up entirely by AI, including the caveat, "The author has not independently checked the analyses and does not have the expertise to verify every technical detail." arxiv.org/abs/2610.28575

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...
"You will need to ask your mom if you can ride your bike to the mall. The dirt mall is closer, but the magazine stand at the dirt mall doesn’t carry any computer magazines, so you’ll need to take a longer ride to the good mall, where the book store actually has computer magazines." Good times.

Hey, media people! Read this thread! Stop trying to interview the same few super-famous mathematicians about AI. It's like interviewing the two or three wealthiest people in the US about how inflation affects their ability to buy food.
Short thread asking @nytimes.com and other MSM to stop interviewing the same small handful of people every time something math-related comes up. Mathematicians are dismayed when AI scoops them on the results? How about look for advice from someone familiar with getting scooped and outpowered.

"...degrees should not be rewarded primarily on the text of a dissertation...more on a rigorous in-person defense. Students should regularly show professors they can speak fluently about their work." Maybe - work with artists and writers to broaden the understanding of the art of mathematics?

10 minutes in, I feel somewhat less anxious about talking to my after school kids about STEM careers. Mostly we don't talk - we do stuff but it does come up.
Some reflections on AI in math. I found it helpful to simply list out the various parts of what a mathematician does, why math is valuable, and where the funding comes from. From there, what happens if AI gets more capable? youtu.be/LKrwhjOI8Nc

Important parts of brain function — and IMO THE most important parts of brain function — are created by the patterns of the trillions of connections in the brain. Needless to say, organoid cell blobs don’t have a similar connectivity pattern. Not close. (There. One article’s thesis down.)
Can we also have a series of articles on the limitations of organoids? Or have I missed them?
