As early as July 2022, BoE Governor Bailey earmarked September as the likeliest date for the QT announcement. And then the BoE announced it formally in August 2022 - trumpeting a September launch - with quite a lot of coverage in the financial news media! 👇

Truss attacks the BoE for choosing to launch QT the day before the mini-budget, without "any briefing on what it was planning". Which, as you will find in the next post, is hopelessly wrong.

Sorry, let's just get this out the way. YOUR CHANCELLOR SIGNED THE FECKIN LETTER APPROVING THE BOE'S QT DECISION, LIZ. THE. DAY. BEFORE. THE. MINI-BUDGET. Jesus Christ.

New Liz Truss book doesn't disappoint. Thrust is blaming the Bank of England for the Sept 2022 market fallout, especially its quantitative tightening announcement the day before the mini-budget. She claims that she and Kwarteng were "caught off-guard", blindsided by the BoE's announcement.

I know I say this every time, but it's true. They try to make you believe they are inevitable, when in fact they are defeatable. They do this because once people believe they will always win, there's no point fighting back.

What an incredible night last night. To see the resistance against populism triumph in two such different countries, in two such different ways.

Obviously not everyone agrees. The couple in front of me got up after 20 minutes and never came back. I stared at them like they were creatures from anther planet. Felt like following them into they foyer shouting: IS THIS NOT CINEMA? WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU THINK YOU'D COME HERE TO SEE?

Of all the bbc presenters, Webb’s politics are the easiest to read - because he puts them in newspapers and doesn’t even try to hide them in broadcasts His politics are also mind numbingly predictable

These always hurt. I know objectively with the show turning 60 this year that even the youngest cast members would be in their 80s (I didn't know Walter was 90), but it's still never easy. These guys have been here my entire life! RIP Walter Koenig. Thank you for being there my entire life.😢

Oh no 😭 One of the last members of the USS Enterprise has left. RIP Walter Marvin Koenig (1936-2026) Star Trek, Babylon 5, Moontrap, The Starlost, The Questor Tapes, Futurama... What a career in sci-fi. I will miss Pavel Chekov. Again 😞

Yup. It's also a very urban reaction. I'm confident in saying most people round my way - semi-rural but still London commutable already have this done. We lose power regularly and water's been distinctly hit and miss the last few years. Why wouldn't you have a torch and some water in?

Strongly agree. It's not unreasonable of the government to ask grown-ups to give half an hour's thought to what they would want to hand if the power or water went out overnight.

Ultimately Justin Webb being a biased, contrarian idiot is a scandal for the BBC. It is simply inexcusable that he hasn’t been sacked for saying that Trump is making America normal again.

I seem to remember the Daily Mail being apoplectic that MOTD presenter Gary Lineker expressed political opinions on his own personal twitter account. But they're happy to pay Webb, presenter of Radio 4s flagship current affairs programme, to write political opinion pieces? Of course they are.

it is surely inappropriate for a BBC journalist to be writing opinion pieces for other media outlets. It undermines the idea that Webb can be an objective interviewer on Today on which he so often takes his own agenda into the studio.

Gary Lineker was a football presenter and dared to voice an opinion and was fired. This anchor of one of the BBC's flagship political shows writes in a fascist rag and it's no problem at all. The BBC has zero credibility.
