I have never gotten excited by #Eurovision. It never made a lot of sense to me. But #Canada is joining, so I am paying a bit of attention
A number of countries are #boycotting because #Israel is still participating. For a contest that is supposed to unify, is it?

The Plot to Enslave America. Harsh treatment of student borrowers both makes those currently in the labor pool more willing to submit to exploitation and future workers less likely to go to college (where they could compete with the aristocrat children of the elite). Big win for the oligarch class
A first home. Kids. A family. Borrowers are putting these on hold to deal with astronomical student loan payment increases due to Trump killing the SAVE plan. They’ve done everything right and are now scraping to get by. What kind of American dream is that? www.businessinsider.com/student-loan...
whenever the DSA ultras talk about losing credibility, they dont mean with voters or the working class — they mean among their friends in leninist parties
If she does caucus, though, she'll probably keep her R rather than switching to I. That's how it generally works at the state level in AK (where it's common).
I mean fair, she’s just in sort of an unusual spot where she’s demonstrated she’s not really someone you can primary and she’s for her many flaws not a MAGA person: people forget she was a vote to impeach
FINAL STRETCH: A new Susan Collins campaign ad includes this line on Troy Jackson: “I also know Troy Jackson. But we're not talking about buying a cord of wood here. We're sending someone to the US Senate, and Troy doesn't have the tools he needs to be effective.”
I'm morbidly curious how far gone he can get before it's acknowledged. Think his heart reaches expiration first, but there's a chance that it's May 2028 and the president is capable of nothing save the occasional gurgling noise, while Scott Jennings gushes about his unique communication style.
Yes, watching so many people just pretend Trump isn’t incredibly demented at this point truly makes me feel like I’m living in some sort of fucked-up and incredibly overwrought satire.
21 YEAR-OLD REPUBLICAN STAFFER: grok please give me a strategy to win the midterms in a +12 Dumocrat evironment
GROK: In 1894 the traitor Dreyfus was correctly convicted of treason against the nation -
Pretty wild: Even some MAGA figures are now panicking about the early vote. And for good reason: The electorate is 11 points more Dem than at this point in 2024, and Latino vote is surging.
On the pod @simonwdc.bsky.social is very illuminating on what the data shows:

I know there’s a lot going, but 19 Republican AGs have said—in writing!—that pro-choice speech should be criminalized.
Thats a Big Fucking Deal and it blows my mind that more people aren’t talking about it
I know people who've looked into food pantries/food aid
to the extent that's available, it's also through state-funded services exclusively. there is no anarchist food bank. there is no anarchist soup kitchen.
there are people in need all around here. somewhat famously. it's the neighborhood where CHAZ/CHOP happened and there's a massive population of unhoused people, plus all kinds of normal social problems. those issues are addressed, to the extent that they are, by state and city funded nonprofits
also, like, it just isn't true when people are like "anarchists are pillars of their community! they're important!" no, they're not! I live in an incredibly left-wing area of my city. there are no public services provided by anarchists here. there are no anarchist groups going around helping ppl.
it's the same thing with "it was leftists that got social progress by rioting/protesting" etc.
it's all about their self image. they are de facto the exact same kind of guy as "sheepdog" dudes who conceal carry everywhere. they need their Service to the Common Person respected.
it's just a glaring piece of evidence that for leftists, their politics is a giant gaping ego wound that they need assuaged, they're doing it out of a desperate desire to be a Good Person and maybe The Goodest Person. it *infuriates* them to not have their valor respected, which is why I won't do it
I will never understand the psychological profile of leftists who demand that liberals, who they will never support, acknowledge that leftists are honorable. "You have to admit anarchists do important work in their communities!" no, i don't! you won't acknowledge anything liberalism does!
NEW: Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska just endorsed Democrat Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins for governor — crossing party lines in the final week ahead of Election Day.
There are approx 250k people living in the brown area, the city of Hebron in the W. Bank. Of them, 349 eligible to vote in the Israeli election, they got a polling site set up just for them, and they voted for the 2 most extreme right wing parties. The rest: Palestinians who have no right to vote.
The 349 voters (out of 700-800 or so Jews, inc children) live in a small tightly controlled area at the city center that Palestinians cannot enter. But their right to vote is not defined by location, which is why it isnt demarcated on the map. It is defined solely by being Israeli jewish citizens.
Democracy is all about hope.
It takes hope to register to vote.
It takes hope to cast your ballot.
It takes hope to choose people who will make things better.
Don't sit this election out.
The reason is that the entire Western left was deeply shaped by neo-Maoist movements in the 1960s and 1970s counterculture. It would be very misleading to say it's the only major influence (it's not) but the Baader-Meinhof Gang and Weather Underground were formative and can't yet be jettisoned.
I've even heard some of these fools defending 1930s/40s Japan as an "anti-imperial"/"anti-colonial" force. This is inhuman, but worse on a theory level is the unwillingness to actually do the work of analyzing China. I saw a purported Trotskyist world history that openly refused to ask the question.
And I think it's obscured how much of this "anti-imperial"/"anti-colonial" idea comes straight from the 1950s Moscow line. So you get not only unconditional defense of, say, the current regime in Iran, but a complete erasure of the actual Iranian workers' movement
This is definitely true about the US. I'm in Europe where Maoism didn't take root anywhere near as deeply -- when I was organizing in the US for a couple of years it was really shocking how many Maoists there were -- but the shallow "anti-colonial"/"anti-imperial" analysis is everywhere.
appears to me that western enchantment with maoism came on the heels of disillusionment with the soviet project--khrushchev denouncing stalin then crushing the hungarian revolution being the final nails in the coffin
To confront the legacy of Mao thus opens one up to attacks from the still very much ascendant "anti-colonial" wing. It also can lead to accusations of redbaiting, because the GOP adores making bad-faith attacks against normal Democrats painting them as Communists.
