China’s first AI-generated theatrical feature has flopped, earning just $181,000 in its first weekend. By contrast, the scrappy ‘Niu Lai’ turned its crude animation into a viral attraction, grossing nearly $10 million a couple of months ago. www.cartoonbrew.com/box-office-r...

Christopher (Gilmore Girls) and Bobby (Twin Peaks). Except Bobby doesn’t make me wanna throw the TV out of the window (my wife had to scold me last time we watched GG because I kept booing and shouting "Loser!" every time Christopher appeared).

People abroad don't understand the level of interference Meta & bots had in these elections. 5 days before the election a far-right politician posted a fake news video that got 157 MILLION views on Instagram in 24hs. For reference, GTA 6's reveal trailer got 90 million views on YouTube in 24hs.

Every year the same. Clocks go back - *time itself* manipulated- ‘for farmer’. And every year the farmer next door stays in bed. Luxuriating in slumber; delighting in nod; feasting on lethargy. His fields? Fallow. His livestock unattended; his fine machines rusting. RISE MAN! Sew, gather *make hay*

Upstairs Downstairs was made in part by people who were alive during WWI. (Angela Baddeley, b.1904, kept the writers honest; another actor was Rupert Brooke’s lover.) The long scene of Edward’s shellshock at armistice fireworks - & his employer’s sensitive response - sticks with me….

You'll hear conservatives say that mental illness started with Millennials, then you read a 200 year-old book and it's all gay guys throwing themselves on the ground in weeping fits or manic ladies beating their brains out against the wall and everybody's like, "Yeah that happens sometimes."

Feels like every day we are hearing bad news about the humanities, but this stat is pretty shocking. Graduate research production has roughly declined by half in 10 years.

Humanities dissertations have fallen by 49 percent since 2015, compared with a drop of 4.5 percent in the social sciences, according to a new analysis of nearly 445,000 dissertations in these two fields over 65 years. Explore the data: https://chroni.cl/4yxUZ4S

if you ever write an article about a guy saying hes done with politics and then a month or so later hes making the largest political donation in history then you need to quit and find another line of work

The first one I really remember was Starglider II, a fantastic game that was years ahead of its time. Difficult, but you didn’t need to bother with the missions and could just randomly cruise from planet to planet. Or find out what happens when you fly into the sun.

Is there no point at which opinion columnists get sacked on basis of being spectacularly shit with their opinions? Football management criteria applied would be great.
