I think the lesson from Lula is not never talk about the opposition; it's articulate a positive vision that's basically, We Can Just Do Things. That's why Mamdani-ism is so popular - voters have an intrinsic sense that their electeds have agency they're not using

Trump: "I'm studying his body. I've never studied the body of a man before. It's not my thing. Nothing wrong with it, of course. But it's never been my thing. But I looked at his ass. I said, 'His ass, shit, it's like a pile of muscle.' Then I looked at his legs and I said, 'Man, his feet are big.'"

You guys can keep repeating this all you want, but it doesn’t make it true. America was founded as a secular republic, not a Christian nation. The Constitution is pretty clear about that.

The last half of this quote wasn't circulating nearly as much yesterday, but it's actually the clincher. God bless this brilliant, gifted, absolutely deranged man.

Amazon, Microsoft, and Google are “the world’s largest knowledge predators” and possess dangerous monopolistic powers, according to this meticulous study by Cecilia Rikap. This is a forceful argument for dissolving tech monopolies and democratizing digital innovation. @VersoBooks buff.ly/v2grlq5

Trans people are a slightly LARGER percent of the US population in 2026 than Jewish people were in Germany in 1933. Assholes who say trans folk aren’t worth defending because of population size are telling us exactly who they would have been in Nazi Germany.

I would like to report on the literary agents who are claiming a percentage of their clients' Anthropic settlement. But I need some authors willing to share info about who these agents are (privately - no need to go on the record). Reach out: hello@janefriedman.com

Had posted something here about publishers possibly holding back payouts to authors for unearned-out advances, but I was wrong wrong wrong, and so have removed that error-ridden supposition. Anthropic is set up to pay authors directly. (Thanks to Harold and Maggie for the gentle corrections.)
