my nuclear-grade AI hot take that’s sure to get me cancelled until kingdom come is that refusing to use AI at all is rapidly becoming an extremely privileged lifestyle choice that feels social justice-y while actually being the complete opposite

SE Gyges@segyges.bsky.social

being anti AI is a luxury belief only available to first world people, especially Americans imagine how important machine translation is for people whose first languages aren't that common

Why was this disclosed? Why Tailscale wasn't noticed in advance? This is not how you disclose a vulnerability.

Ed@ed3d.net

to little surprise, "Tailscale oh no no no no no" turns out to be...uh. well, you can read it yourself. this is an axe-grinding exercise that uses confident-sounding slop as camouflage.

Wordsky just got a big update! There is now a map of English Bluesky showing what topics people are talking about. For each topic, there’s a list of key accounts you can follow. wordsky.app/map

Do you know the feeling when there is an evil choice in an RPG and you can't bring yourself choose it because you feel bad for being cruel to a fictional character? Well, apparently not everyone relates.

Vibecession Forever@ghazelleberner.bsky.social

First of all, it's crazy how many people on this app are dogshit pieces of garbage. Look at this dogpile. Second of all, it's REALLY crazy how many people ostensibly on the left are literally begging for permission to find something or someone they can be extraordinarily cruel towards.

Actual addictologists and drug researchers never talk about heroin users like that. A lot of their information about heroin use comes from them.

ava@avaminsky.bsky.social

a common response to ”you should probably learn how ai works before making incorrect claims about it. you could use it, or talk to people who do” is “oh, so i should have to do heroin to talk about how it’s dangerous?” and well. drug users do have unique insights about what drug use is like actually

You can get a whole lot of information about what words an account uses and which accounts use similar words on Bluesky.

Maybe the most useful part is that you can discover accounts by searching for who overuses certain words the most. For example these accounts love Angine de Poitrine.

I think pro or anti AI is a basically meaningless distinction because it's a lot of different things, sometimes it's a useful, potentially transformative tool and sometimes it's social trust atomizer and reality melting machine. but I've definitely become more anti 'this type of guy'

not yet merged into github.com/olaugh/pfsynth main branch. i made some progress on physically modeled synth for the violin family. some registers and some techniques are still sounding rough. didn't stop me from making a demoscene style string quartet tracker. they let you post anything on here

Long-termists in 1800. "No, helping abolitionism isn't the best thing I can do with my time. We should be worried about existential risks that might only occur in the future, like the plague coming back. I'm going to devote all my money to research about the plague."

As someone whose timeline is full of left-wing trans people making insane cool toys with open-weight AI and using it to organise their lives it’s always a trip to go into a comment section where people are like “and of course the right-wing tech oligarchs are RAMMING AI down people’s THROATS”

Hanlon's razor does not explain ignoring OpenSSH. This is not an accident and they did not overlook it. At some point, they deliberately decided that they are better off without OpenSSH being able to secure itself with Mythos.

Doll@dollspace.gay

If openssh which basically the entire internet relies on doesnt warrant mythos access then what does? Whats the criteria? Why isnt that criteria transparent?

self proclaimed good guys anthropic, generously giving defenders and prominent open source projects access to the best models at cybersecurity. well except for the openssh maintainers

P(Doomien) Miller@damienmiller.bsky.social

Anthropic may not have intended to write an excellent ad for GLM 5.3, but that's what they did. www.anthropic.com/research/glm... Unlike Mythos, I might actually have a chance at using GLM for defensive research. Anthropic didn't reply to any of my requests for Mythos access for use on OpenSSH.

I haven't been so bearish on OpenAI in a long time. Botched training, a cancelled release, decreased limits and now they are attempting to improve margins with an ultrafast mode. Are they in trouble?

mr. TIM@timkellogg.me

OpenAI is offering ultrafast mode (8x faster, 300 tok/s) for Astra to use it, you need to subscribe to a new usage tier — Pro 500 — 25x usage of Plus (presumably $500/mo) chatgpt.com/pricing/

As they should. I just checked my OR bills and it turned out Jev is not cheaper than the earlier Qwen instruct model I was using. Output is free, input is half the price, but Jev is counting a lot more input tokens (the prompt also needs to be a bit longer for jev to get a good agreement rate).

Cameron@cameron.stream

lol going for jev's throat

Thinking about this old quote in the context of certain people - professors, nyt contributors, etc - who see casual misgendering as a reasonable response to a lack of respect for their claimed epistemic authority

Very good analogy pointing out how anthropomorphizing LLMs is not primarily intended to hide the responsibility of labs and if it were, it wouldn't be an effective tool.

These guys are reading my posts. When I shared the video two days ago (which was already a month old) the title was "frog beats frog" or something along those lines. I referenced Angine in the reply and look at the title of the same video.

And they are from Quebec. Them too. That place has something in the water.

If you hit your usage limit in ChatGPT Work, then the sandbox goes away with all the work that the agent has done. Yes, I'm an idiot for not starting that session in Codex, but it was a one prompt task from a phone. Not gonna happen again.

The pro-AI coalition only looks unified because everyone is shooting at the same anti AI barricade from wildly incompatible metaphysical positions.

Guess who tested a slow export on a dev database with minimal data five minutes ago to return triumphantly that the export will not take much time.

I'm back, I missed you all. Since this is an important subject I know too much about, here's a 🧵 explaining that AI Safety Is Mostly A Sex Cult. I don't think these people should make policy. (1/?) (alternative title: Time For Some Cult Theory)

really the main fight seems to be people who see AI as the right one foisted upon them, and people who see AI as a way to build the left one themselves and finally be free of the corpo version forever
