Full disclosure, y’all. I am currently an employee of HOURCAR; and reeling in this news myself. I am NOT speaking as an employee currently, just as someone who believes in the community aspect of this service and having my own experience.

Curious about the ripple effects of this action- lots of people involved in making a show go up don’t always get referred to as “artists”. I assume IATSE brethren are standing with the musicians, but are possibly losing gigs /income because of this?

MN Opera is postponing the world premiere of The Many Deaths of Laila Starr. Musicians had authorized a strike earlier this month, and are planning a benefit concert on Sunday at Ted Mann Concert Hall. Opera announcement: mnopera.org/minnesota-op.... Benefit info: www.facebook.com/events/14872...

Nvm that “artist” is anyone who participates in creating art- including musicians, technicians, administrative! That’s just not how producers refer to the whole team. “Artists” in MNOP statement likely means performers, designers, directors, SM- possibly not technicians. Varying levels of respect!

I spoke to / emailed with HOURCAR Member Services staff many times over ~20 years of membership; they occasionally seemed overburdened, but were unfailingly helpful, courteous, and professional.

Just some random weirdo, boo@justarandomweirdo.bsky.social

Help support former HOURCAR staff! "As of Oct. 17, all HOURCAR staff are out of a job; none will be paid severance, nor are they eligible for COBRA. This fund creates an emergency financial cushion for those who were paid below living wage." @hourcar.bsky.social gofund.me/1bfa7a4aa

Everytime I’m mad about how ex-staff haven’t been paid their final checks or won’t have access to COBRA, something happens that makes me remember how mad I am about how quickly this went down. The timing was literally my WORST case scenario for members; I wanted a MONTHS long notice period. So mad.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

also life is so much more beautiful when u have access to covid mitigation tools like pluslife tests. the fact we've been able to be unmasked w friends 3 times this month alone has literally been life changing

I was just listening to an NPR segment (@wbur.org) earlier this week about how the KS race is like, very close for the first time in 90some years- and that means that their Democrat is still pretty middle of the road, comparatively. If this is middle of the road, I’ll take it! #transrights

BeshearStan@beshearstan.bsky.social

Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights: “I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself”

Trump’s goal is to intimidate me and get me to back down. That’s not going to happen. I will not be silenced, and I will not stop fighting for my constituents.

Holy shit, hadn't seen this over here (makes sense cause the ad didn't run here, but wish @bookshop.org would post more here, the place where people love books!). Great, firm response. So dumb and insidious of Meta.

I feel obliged to once again reiterate that lay offs and closures are not a reaction to the economy, but a failure of leadership. Each wave of closures and layoffs should be looked upon as a consequence of greed and incompetence. If you can't keep your people employed, you are bad at your job.

It is important to understand that capitulating, that being the quiet girl, the agreeable girl, the one who always apologizes, the one who is always sweet - also will not save you from a mob that wants you dead for being a woman.

We had pop-ups happen in STP a week or so ago. They were technically not early voting because it was absentee ballots; with the double sealed envelopes- but one of the workers told me it was a new (state?) law, and they were ironing out the kinks. I’m excited to see more in the future!

Grants for artists and creatives. So they can write/make art without worrying about keeping the lights on, the health insurance current, and a roof over their heads

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

inspired: bluesky becomes the platform of choice for progressive reform based on Minnesotan community norms

Jackson O'Lantern-Brien@sprobeforebros.bsky.social

tired: bluesky is dying wired: bluesky is slowly turning into a minnesota-only social media network. Soon it will become another local curiosity like saying "parking ramp" instead of "parking garage" and playing duck duck gray duck
