Students usually have a "do we have do do anything 😩" day after a test, so this week I will share this graph with them and ask them to add anything #EduSky #ITeachMath I might even print them out and display them if I have time www.desmos.com/calculator/m...

@mathyawp.bsky.social and @stevenstrogatz.com both lending their voices to the AI conversation. Excellent.
I was interviewed by the NPR show On Point, with things I said dropped in a couple of places into an illuminating conversation between Steven Strogatz and Meghna Chakrabarti about AI and math: www.wbur.org/onpoint/2026...

Hi, I’m a sighted alt text user! Here are some reasons I use it: - Slow Internet on an airplane - I’m over 40, I have no idea who that celebrity is - Bluesky broke images again - My vision sucks and that text is too small to read otherwise - Conveys further context and authorial intent

New this week, my Much Ado About Numbers website which celebrates the links between maths, Shakespeare and Elizabethan history. Do have a go at the quiz - can you score more than 3 out of 10? Here's the website. Enjoy! www.muchadoaboutnumbers.co.uk cc @mathsjem.bsky.social

Over the past couple of months I had AI make improvements (after much back and forth), first a set of themes and now a white noise generator. I used to play the same white noise track from Spotify; now it's built into the timer. Give it a try & maybe a bookmark? recursiveprocess.com/newtimer.html

A HS Calc3 student of mine sent me this. It's excellent for so many reasons. 1) My students get math in their algorithm. Love those nerds. 2) The video talks about relative size and crappy flat maps. 3) The Calc III content in it is awesome! This will be my lesson tomorrow. youtu.be/41gmhbmOpCw?...
Thread! Thanks. I teach Multi in a HS and we have lots of time to have discussions similar to this. Best part of my day. I'll be sharing this with them. Watch this space/my feed for me to share some activities for that class.
I had a student ask the other day why we don't multiply vectors in the expected way (component-wise). So, <a,b,c>⊙<d,e,f>=<ad,be,cf>. My gut response was that we could, but it isn't as useful as the dot product or the cross product. But I decided to think about it and see if I could come up with 1/6
A student sent this video to me which basically writes my lesson plan for tomorrow! The video is great - but can be enhanced by a teacher's touch. Arc length using spherical coordinates, vectors, dot product, and Desmos. So cool. youtu.be/41gmhbmOpCw?...

Whenever I had a few minutes over the last few days, I created a new shape for my "impossible objects" library. Want to make a cactus/cowboy boot shape? You can now. I also implemented a visual picker to replace the drop-down menu. I plan to keep adding to it. divisbyzero.github.io/impossible-o...

I'm always fascinated by analogies with other professions because it's hard to think of one where you work with big groups of the same people over extensive periods of time and where people will tell you years later that you changed the course of their life because of who you were/how you worked.

I’m designing a workshop series (3 1-hour sessions) for 11th & 12th graders to show how to use @desmos.com for exploring, problem solving, and creating, not just graphing. I have ideas for what to prioritize but I’d love to hear what others would focus on in or do in that time. #mtbos #iteachmath

Looking for ideas to use my classroom decor to invite my students to interact with math. Not something to distract them, but for the in between times. I have plenty of blocks and puzzles - think more like patterns and posters they can see from their desks. #iteachmath #mtbos #mathart #middleschool
