A recent programming graduate who is currently working in the game industry described the grief she feels for the career she thought she was going to have. She loves to code, and she doesn’t want to surrender that in whole or in part to a tool, even if she understands its utility. “I am grieving.”

Ok, so she doesn’t want to run for president I guess.

Kamala Harris: I think that going in the direction of impeachment is not a good idea. I was in the Senate for the last go-round, and the votes aren’t there. I think after the election, we all have to just also agree that our attitude has to be to get stuff done…

Meta strongly appears to be an enemy of democracy in the US. Proceed accordingly. If you're a politician, activist, or organization on the left, you HAVE to build your presence off of Meta and X - which basically means here and Mastodon. Bring your audience over as much as possible. It's critical.

Hey Meta 👋 We are currently hosting a get-out-the-vote rally in Osceola County, home to a large Puerto Rican community, and our #LatinosConAngie Instagram page was suddenly taken down while we were actively posting content from the event.

For the second time this month, the newspaper owned by Jeff Bezos has run a lede editorial fretting about the price of cardboard boxes.

Bill Grueskin@bgrueskin.bsky.social

The Washpost Opinion section’s lede editorial tonight is blasting … the EU’s new rules for packaging, including cardboard boxes. No doubt, at least one of their readers is intensely interested in this issue.

Minneapolis Public Schools just emailed to say that enrollment is down this year—likely due to Metro Surge—with 900 fewer English Language Learners compared to this time last year. An estimated $12.9 million less revenue for our schools. The impacts of ICE on our community continue to mount.

The fun thing about this is when they say “a third of the size of Las Vegas,” they mean the capacity (6k vs ~18k seats). But the actual sphere itself not that much smaller! 302 feet high instead of 366…

The political media is visibly chafing at the current situation, where Republicans are glaringly awful, fucking everything up, running deviant candidates everyone hates, and Dems are just being normal & winning. The force is out of balance. They are viscerally eager to go after Dems about something.

As the midterms approach, I would just remind everyone that US politics has become increasingly parliamentary and that what matters most is the *number* of Ds or Rs, not the idiosyncrasies or ideological quirks of individual candidates. If you want D outcomes, vote D up & down the ticket.

The US general elections are one week from today—and many people are already voting! There are many key elections I'll be following, based on the @boltsmag.org cheatsheet boltsmag.org/whats-on-the..., with some specifically interesting referendums coming up on housing & transportation issues... 🧵

NEW: My midterms cheat sheet features 670+ races—up and down the ballot, & why they matter. Now it's in PDF, printable form! Save it, print it, give it to your kids to color the Senate map, & use it your worksheet on election night. Find it here: boltsmag.org/whats-on-the...

Not meant as a dunk—finding paints that can passively cool buildings is good! But just don't slather it everywhere when other things are necessary

Hennepin County: tell your loved ones about Cedrick Frazier

Jill Bernard@jillybee72.bsky.social

I’m still laughing at the desperate way I handed my husband a piece of paper that said CEDRICK FRAZIER at the early voting center, because I realized we hadn’t talked about the whole ballot.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.
