We're at the stage of climate change where nazis are rising from the grave

Record-low water levels on the Danube near Prahovo, Serbia, have exposed the wrecks of dozens of Nazi-era vessels sunk by German forces during their 1944 retreat from advancing Soviet troops. The discovery comes as Europe endures an intense heatwave and historic drought.

This is bleak: Jes Staley, currently CEO of Barclays, reassuring Epstein that popular revolt against financial elites is unlikely because capitalism and pop culture have defanged social movements, leaving people more invested in consumption than justice.

There is something truly remarkable about Generative AI. Several years in this revolution, half of the US GDP dumped to make these tools free, and i can't think of a single generated artifact, text, image, sound, video that had a significant cultural impact.

Their catalog used to play up the icky nature of military surplus ironically. Their graphics looked like a Russ Meyer exploitation film, with pinup girls in historical costumes ranging from soviets to nazis to modern uniforms. What happened? Why drop that to unironically boost a dead nazi?

Trump says of migrant farm laborers: "These people do it naturally." "I said to a farmer the other day, 'What happens if they get a bad back?' He said, 'They don't get a bad back, sir, because if they get a bad back, they die.'"

Conspiracy theory of the day: streaming services intentionally release bad audio mixes so viewers resort to using subtitles. Subtitles are more engaging for easily-distracted viewers, and gameify the experience by adding an active task. It's like adding subway surfers to every video

My response to any defense of AI in the arts is “show me something good made with it.” We’re three years in with this stuff and brother, I’m still batting a thousand

The maddening thing is that this would have been PAINFULLY OBVIOUS if they had ANY EXPERIENCE AT ALL working with the government! In any way! Or if they had asked a single question!! 😖
