it's important to remember the people doing this aren't "just following orders," they signed up to do this, they're excited to do it, it's what they want to be doing, and each one of them is personally culpable for the entirety of ICE's conduct

The Assignment with Antonia Hylton@theassignmentmsnow.bsky.social

In video provided exclusively to MSNBC's The Weekend: Primetime, immigration agents are seen attempting to pull a man out a window of a Chicago home. Agents also jumped a fence into the locked backyard and manhandled people doing work. Hear from the homeowner tonight on The Weekend: Primetime.

This is the stuff they’re doing to people who are famous so imagine what they’re doing to regular people and Palestinians without a voice

i find this image so fascinating. it is both a literal example of authoritarianism but also a second-hand reproduction of the aesthetics of other authoritarian states. it's like a simulacra of authoritarianism whose purpose is to attempt to make the simulacra real.

This is a real photograph of Washington, DC this week, where the United States president has ordered military occupation in peacetime, and ordered the display of colossal portraits of himself. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

There's nothing quite like the frustration a dev feels when people who have no clue how a server works asks something like "well why can't we retrieve a million results in under a second on our tiny, on-prem server built originally for like 30 users?"

We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers. The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.

“Social solidarity is destroyed when you have too much migration too quickly,” JD Vance tells our columnist Ross Douthat in this episode of “Interesting Times.” “That’s not because I hate the migrants or I’m motivated by grievance. That’s because I’m trying to preserve something in my own country.”

"almost every night since Oct 2023, even during his hospitalization, Pope Francis made a daily phone call to the only Catholic parish in the Gaza Strip to check on their safety and offer words of prayer and support. His last public act, the day before he died, was to call for a ceasefire in Gaza."

not a new observation but Elon Musk genuinely isn't very bright, genuinely has no idea how most things work, and his entire supergenius engineer persona is a tech press-enabled mythology (they've never been held accountable for)

Just had to deal with using an official package from a certain company, where the single developer maintaining it was "experimenting" in the master branch, which means it's unusable and I had to go back 3 weeks for a version that actually worked. Absolutely insane dev behavior.

The thing about Tariffs, aside from the countless obvious problems, is that US-based products won't be 'cheaper' than foreign. US companies will just raise their prices as well because they know they *CAN* and will get away with it. Everything's going to be expensive as fuck now.

A reminder: the GWBush Admin built a prison at Gitmo not because of its size or facilities, but on the theory that because it was not in the US, US laws would not apply, and because US didn't recognize Cuban sovereignty over it Cuban law didn't either. It's a stateless, lawless zone of impunity.

i think it is important to say that the open and explicit racism of the president and the vice president isn’t just uncouth or “controversial” but a direct attack on tens of millions of americans and a dereliction of their duty to represent the entire country
