This is huge. Myself and many of my coworkers and friends who were dismissed suddenly last year were working toward this exact moment and while I’m sad we’re not there anymore to see it through I sincerely hope we see the cohort at Rockstar make the right decision 🤞

This was an absolutely insane project to be a part of, and I'm very proud of what our team managed to achieve with it!

So, wait, has NaNoWriMo rebranded as "Novel November", paid for by ProWritingAid, which used to be a spell/grammar checker but now is (you guessed it) an "'AI' grammar checker"--in short, yet another way for a griftslop machine to grab human-written text? Do I have that right?

It's mentioned in the article, but EA developers across multiple studios are being heavily encouraged (though, not mandated) to use generative AI technology such as Claude. This is not going down well with staff, but management is adopting a 'get with it, or get left behind' mentality.

Cannot believe I have to say this, but here we go - The #SaveMassEffect petition/thing is not only tone deaf, but actively harmful to the industry at large. Let me explain…

Go see Wildwood. Seriously, don’t wait—go see Wildwood. What a piece of art. The love for the manual craft, for story that doesn’t hold back, for filmmaking that is not here to answer to stockholders, it weaves all through it. Incredible stuff.

If you're a Steven Universe fan, you'll recognize a familiar name in the corner of this Invader Zim fan art sent in to Game Informer as envelope artwork in 2002: Rebecca Sugar! Always neat coming across stuff like this. 📖: Game Informer, October 2002

Really good and obviously extremely infuriating story here.

Last summer, Scientific American's owners were stalking the site, making sure it wasn't being too critical of Trump. This summer, the magazine was sold and gutted. I wrote about it for The Nation www.thenation.com/article/soci...

We must expect that Meta's interference is happening in other elections around the world *right now*. This isn't just a one-off. Meta has proved repeatedly they are committed to advancing far-right agendas worldwide, are serial liars, and are flagrantly indifferent to the dismantling of democracies.

I love being reminded that the audience really doesn’t give a shit about the developers. Like, forget that one of the most influential studios in our industry was just executed by its publisher, just make sure the product continues on the assembly lines!

Brazil going the way of South Korea. Basically around the world women are desperately trying to keep power out of the hands of incredibly stupid fascistic grifters while men keep trying to hand it over. Men are an embarrassing cringe gender.

This is Laika’s magnum opus. The story is simple, but gripping. The world feels alive and dangerous. The danger itself is real (people DIE in this). The animation is so good, I forgot it was stop motion at parts. Art in motion on screen.

The idea of the AI developer as someone burgeoning with wonderful, never before seen ideas who just needed the tools to realize them is by and large a fantasy. The reality of the AI developer is someone producing spam at volume who has no ideas of their own, so just clone something popular.

I wish I was exaggerating, 16 games from one dev, all AI slop, all clones of something else, all pumped out in the space of months. That's my experience of what AI tools are enabling, not creativity, not anyone's dream game, but spam. Constant, low effort, neverending, AI generated spam.
