This is disappointing because I thought Brazil went far enough in stopping Bolsonaro, and obviously they did not. But also heartening because we know that as Americans we need to go even farther in destroying the Republican Party and its enablers.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

I think Oregon would have had a disappointing season no matter what but I keep thinking about the butterfly effects of that super-duper-mega cheapshot on Dante Moore. how many wins did it cost them, how many guys will get fired, how far will his draft position fall

More news: Oregon has fired OC Drew Mehringer.

Incredible vignette while walking Miga: bent-over old guy in newsboy cap unlocks his giant $70k Genesis SUV while smoking a cigar. His cell phone rings. The custom ringtone? The Godfather theme. He squints at the phone, puts it to his ear, and shouts “WHAT PART OF ‘FUCK EM’ DID YOU NOT UNDERSTAND”

We tried "everyone is entitled to an opinion" for three straight decades and all we have to show for it is four thousand cases of measles and a death cult running the government. It's time for people who don't know what they're talking about to shut the fuck up.

in a dark sort of irony, this too is gender: we displace agency from men onto women as a way of excusing their abuse—what did you say to make him hit you? likewise, the (male-coded) political right is always understood as being provoked by the (female & queer-coded) left

As far as I can tell, literally every article on this quotes the same "expert" — a former estranged father who has an entire blog dedicated to absolving parents of any responsibility. He also sells $995 "consultations" where he will blame your kids for cutting you off.

I'm not kidding, the guy simply has to be at the very least deported at the end of this. If we're doing "he's not from here" shit, he is the most not from here guy alive. He needs jail or deportation the second it's viable to do it.

"To the extent columns exist mainly to air editors/columnist anxieties, pretty funny progression from “affirmative action is bad” (my kids are applying for college soon) to “the woke campus mob” (my kids disagreed with me/dyed their hair) to this (my kids wont talk to me) bsky.app/profile/jjin...

being a southerner with a lot of queer/exvangelical friends means i’ve seen a lot of people cut their parents off. and in every single case, it was an incredibly painful and difficult decision to protect oneself from parents who abused or stopped loving their child.

When Grammy-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens begins playing “Old Corn Liquor,” a traditional Black American folk tune, acclaimed Chinese pipa virtuoso Wu Man recognizes similarities to Chinese pentatonic music and spontaneously joins in. The joy on their faces says it all.

Got a temp-to-perm job working in a warehouse. First shift they had me sweeping. Terrible allergic reaction to whatever was in the warehouse, took three Benadryl and left at lunch, didn't go back.

As James Baldwin wrote so beautifully: "I love America more than any other country in the world and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually." That's patriotic love. Healthy, I formed criticism with the goal of understanding and improving.

my hot take is that x is in fact still important for anyone following international affairs. but given how noticeably and publicly brains get pickled from x-immersion, i think anyone with a medical history of being a dope (for example, crypto-optimism) should practice self care and abstain

UPDATE: Trump was asked what state Zacharia passed the bar exam. Trump deferred to Zacharia to answer. Zacharia said, "When I moved to China." Which makes absolutely no sense. She appears to waive away follow up questions. bsky.app/profile/atru...

I said this in a thread last night and in a thousand threads before it, but you really are doing the work of those who would destroy democracy and the rule of law when you are a doomer. You can be aware of — and vigorously oppose — the lawlessness of this administration without insisting on doom.

I cannot even imagine how rude that store clerk must have been to Kelly Clarkson for her to not only make that Tweet but respond to their reply by calling them a liar. Like the employee was channeling the maitre d' from Ferris Bueller's Day Off or something.

Never seen a band as dedicated to not playing their hits as AFI. They had five songs that got big time radio play and we heard two of them, lol.

Catching up on Breihan's Number Ones columns, and throwing it out there yet again that "Surface Pressure" is the best Disney song ever and it's a shame that Bruno (which is fine) is the one that became the #1 hit.

First results in the first round of the Brazilian Presidential election are in. Lula trailing but looks like the south is reporting faster which skews towards Bolsonaro. That said, prediction markets think this looks good for Bolsonaro (that has signal, unlike prior to vote counting).
