the one who had to tell him. He was so instantly struck. "No. I wasn't supposed to outlive him. He was supposed to be Checkov. That's not fair." He told me about getting to meet him & we had a pretty heavy talk about life & death. A beautiful soul. Our world is a bit dimmer without his light today.

Walter Koenig and I were guests at the same convention a decade ago. At lunch the first day he asked if he could join me and Jess, and I was like, of fucking course. We ended up hanging out and chatting all weekend. Wonderful man. Sadly was the weekend Anton Yelchin passe and I ended up being...

I'm blocking @mary1kathy.bsky.social and adding the account to my blocklists. Life is too short and the times are too serious to fuck around with disinformation and "A.i." bullshit. For accountability, here's the screenshot of the video they posted.

David Axelrod and David Brooks clutching their pearls because El-Sayed didn’t roll over for a racist is such a perfect example of America’s white guy politics that it would sound made up if you put it in a novel

The Plague. It was the Plague. That's it. It was an accidental exposure of one person. No release of anything. There is no danger. This is blatant scaremongering for clicks and views. This is why I don't watch the news, but especially CNN. This isn't journalism. It's tabloid bullshit.

I don't think I've ever talked on Bluesky about why I hate the Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl. Don't read any further unless you're prepared for uncomfortable truths about the "Nicest Guy in Rock", and his very substantial body count & subsequent cover-up.

"I voted with Republicans to oppress people and take away their rights so I can focus on making your life more affordable." Wut?

Holy shit. Marcy Kaptur becomes the latest Dem to release an anti-trans ad, and its worse than all the rest combined. "I voted WITH Republicans to keep transgender ideology out of schools, and let me be clear, boys should NOT play in girls sports." This is getting out of control.

This shit is embarrassing.

Tilly Norwood has been billed the first AI "actor" in Hollywood which raises questions about what awards synthetic performers should be nominated for. In an exclusive chat with CNN's Elizabeth Wagmeister, Tilly Norwood responded to questions about winning an Oscar.

Time for Sanders to retire.

I had a thread about @sanders.senate.gov & Max Tegmark before seeing this one. Yudkowsky is an even more overt eugenicist, you don't have to do any digging to see that. He also has ZERO expertise in "AI" except for being a self described "genius" cult leader who wrote a Harry Potter fanfic.

A very serious Rural Politico once told me "Dems have to go to farmer meetings! We gotta be where the people are!" I was in fact in a farmer meeting at that very moment! So I live-texted him the meeting. They were complaining that they want indentured workers that they don't have to pay or feed.

Lucas Tieman@lucastieman.bsky.social

There would be more pushback if folks left of center were more serious about outreach. But folks aren't despite the fact that our system does give disproportionate power to rural areas. But instead of taking that as the rules of the game as it exists, and actually organizing, we complain about it.

Gender studies does a far better job of explaining the Trump administration than traditional political science, or economics for that matter

This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.

Teaching is one of the few, if not only, professions that nearly everyone has experienced day-to-day. That leads many people to think it's simple and easy, and then denigrate teachers when they talk about the difficulties and lack of pay. What most people don't see is what goes on in the background.

And I love it. Teaching is fun. The kids are amazing. I love the challenge. I love the curiosity. I love working on my craft. Which is why not everyone can or should be a teacher. It may look easy, but the shit is difficult. It's a skill. Teachers are professionals and should be treated as such.

Teachers spend a lot of time working on curriculum, grading, and other school-related work that no one sees. Teachers routinely work 60+ hour weeks for 40 hours of often shitty pay. And you try dealing with 30-40 kids for 8 hours each day. Teaching is exhausting, which is why summers off are key.

The very things he said in his defense told you who he was. The "can't people change" crowd never really addressed why he wasn't acting like someone who was ashamed of his actions, and instead was trying to imply that everyone else needed to be ashamed for asking the question.
