Other DS9 thoughts: why are men constantly looking for masculine role models and cannot find any. Sisko is right there

I’ve just met Q in DS9 and I said to my wife “this is like if the Annoying Orange were a rapist”

A cash-strapped rural police force struggles to deal with Red Diesel gangs. Until its chief inspector realises can get the Met Police to deal with the problem... ...if he pretends they're Iranian. A new six part comedy starring Toby Jones.

The security services remain tight-lipped about possible motives. Russian sabotage, Islamist extremism and direct action from anti-war protesters were not ruled out. But, given the context, Iran would be an obvious suspect

I think it's absolutely mad that today there's a *national news story* about 400 oil platform workers losing their jobs, and the government being blamed. 25% of the UK TV industry lost their jobs in the last 4 years and we never hear a peep about it! Some jobs are 'real jobs' I guess.

Got home from a work thing and had the sudden urge to watch empire records. You know you are getting old when you start relating to Joe, the boss who has all these teens running around with their dramas.

I mean has anyone tried this? Could we get some misfits and weirdos together, play some late 90s pop punk and mysteriously reform will implode and a more socially democratic system will magically appear?

There is much more about kids with their whole life ahead of them and adults realising that they are not where they wanted to be than I’ve previously noticed. Or it is a non determined number of pints of Guinness and sleep deprivation (been up since 4am) that makes me see stuff that isn’t there.

I do still like Mark, the mildly stoned idiot, who navigates the day when apparently everything happens to everyone else with no character development or personal revelations. To him it is just a slightly weird day of work.

Interestingly the theatrical cut paints Rex manning as a general arsehole, however I remember a deleted scene where he kind of explains how he ended up a jaded has-been and in that light it could be interpreted that he acts as an arse when Corey throws herself at him to put her off

I was impressionable when I saw this and I genuinely thought working in a record shop would be this cool. Probably lucky I didn’t get a job in one as a weird fictional record in presumably California is going to be a bit different to Tower Records in Glasgow.

And finally, a short guide to the various 90s sitcoms that starred the entire cast of each Star Trek series: bsky.app/profile/theb...

Chris Farnell@thebrainofchris.bsky.social

How come the DS9 one looks like the magazine cover advertising the latest 90s dramedy about carefree young people in New York, and the VOY one looks like the last photo taken of these people before SWAT teams raided the compound and found all their bodies clasping empty soft drink bottles?

Well, I did not expect Star Trek themed cookware. I would scoff but I’m quite taken by the shuttle craft casserole dish and the communi-grater

Wait, Farage was in Clacton?

Well, all this time I was sure I worked in Glasgow but apparently Gotham city is just round the corner. Movie insider knowledge here, the film will feature at least 2 cars, snow and possibly some wooden pallets. You heard it here.

we need a star trek episode where a Tellerite at the Utopia Planetia shipyard leaned slowly back and goes "If the Romulans built this ship, they'd be able to park a war bird in orbit around Vulcan or Andoria with enough antimatter to glass the planet and we wouldn't even know until it was all over."

Having a sense of the traffic figures Harry and Meghan stories get, I am reverting to my usual explanation of the public when asked about their media habits, which is that they are all stinkin' liars.

Tim Bale@timbale.bsky.social

Either every single media organisation in the UK doesn't understand their audience or people are lying to pollsters. I genuinely can't make up my mind which it is.
