I spent the last 10 years of my career working in React, and I wouldn't trade those years, but it's hard not to feel a bit like I'm in a bit of an unintentionally toxic relationship.

Here’s what I said to our teenager and some other young folks who were around at the match: there’s a difference between a demonstration and a protest, and you need both because people are at different places in their engagement with a movement, and there are different kinds of power.

my woke take is that entirely too many people feel entitled to the benefits of a social contract while not feeling bound by the responsibilities of said contract

You will never be able to make "data driven" decisions until you realize just how much your decisions are driven by emotions: fear of missing out, defensiveness of your favorite idea, apprehension over something unusual. That's because there's no such thing as "the data" - only interpretations.

I’ve been making YouTube videos on CSS for over 8 years and one question that always comes up is how to transition to and from display: none. For a long time, the answer was “it’s complicated”, but now it’s actually pretty easy! html-css-tip-of-the-week.netlify.app/tip/transiti...

People have massively overcorrected on prop drilling imo. I see this kind of thing so often: ``` <MyContext.Provider value={context} > <ChildConsumingContext /> </MyContext.Provider> ``` You should have a compelling reason for opting out of explicit data flow and a well defined interface

Finally getting to play with some of the newer baseline css features. Friends, native styling of the scrollbars is so nice. Like it's such a small thing, but sometimes scrollbars can snap you out of a design & being able to make a scrollbar match your palette with one line of css is just 👩‍🍳💋

I'm looking at building a Typescript wrapper for a web API soon-ish™️ . I've not done a ton of server-side TS/JS. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to make web calls for compatibility across Web browsers, Server-Side rendering frameworks (nuxt/next.js), node, etc.?

🌠 The linear() timing function allows us to embed lush spring physics inside vanilla CSS. It’s one of my favourite modern features. But: providing a fallback for older browsers has been pretty painful. I just discovered a lovely pattern for this. ✨ Here’s the code. Description in thread. 🧵

Many in tech value brutal honesty, but people often focus more on the brutality than the honesty, making them defensive. Instead, aim to be “direct yet kind.” Start with curiosity and a desire to help before offering criticism. When others see empathy in your words, your feedback is more effective.
