My kids asked if I have a celebrity crush. I said "Yeah, Kurt Gödel." They're now reading from Wikipedia while howling at how lame I am. "Mom! A dead recluse mathematician is your celebrity crush?!" "Do you have Dad read the incompleteness theorems to you?" Kids are amazing for real tho. So funny.

It’s also hypocritical for a media ecosystem that will seize on anything from emails, Hunter’s laptop, age, conspiracy theories, and play the song for weeks when it faces the other way, regardless of timing. They do it all the time. These reservations are very selective.

Alex Shephard@alexshephard.bsky.social

The timing of the report is *obviously* political in nature but you can acknowledge that while treating its claims seriously. That’s not what’s happening at all

One of the many things I love about El-Sayed is that he's willing to engage with someone hostile if it gets them to admit the premises behind that hostility, to the extent that it becomes impossible to avoid the underlying bigotry. You want to go there, fine, but he's gonna make you own it.

Ossoff: "We will repeal the tariffs, which will reduce grocery prices. We will end this disastrous war which has driven diesel to $6. And we will repeal the healthcare cuts that have doubled premiums for more than a million Georgians. Those are things we can and need to do immediately."

If you read the Walmart's patents, it's pretty wild. For example US11687872B2, granted in 2023: "The price for other items the customer purchases may be varied based on what items are already in the cart, e.g. if a customer has tuna fish, they may be offered a different price for mayonnaise."

V common thing with religions tho and lots of these promoters and true believers have faith that this technology is the beginning and the end

I keep trying to think of any historical example where a given technology's PROMOTERS AND TRUE BELIEVERS were like 'we are absolutely going to ruin your fucking life so be prepared like it's the end of the world'

Ossoff and El-Sayed took different tacks tonight vs their opponents—El-Sayed was more of a subtext of “you dumb fucking racist jackass” while Ossoff’s was more “if you fell down at a gas station I’d toss a lit match on you”—and I don’t think either of those is a bad choice tbh

i know this is what "i never thought the leopards would eat my face" is exactly describing. but i'd argue what something like the Milo incident shows is that their version is even shallower than that. they're playing GTA and everyone but them is an NPC. life's barely real to them.

the concern with the Arday story isn’t the fact of the media coverage, it’s the volume. it’s perfectly reasonable that there would be some coverage of the story, and basically indefensible that there was as much as there was.

Terry Watkins@gerrygow.bsky.social

The alternative to this is people lying with impunity, with the media knowingly covering it up. It's an awful story. And the media will get a lot of the blame. But those who perpetuated the lies and shielded Arday from facing up to them deserve more of it.

I can only watch Channel 4 through a VPN. And yet! I’m crawl up from the belly of the earth like a Fury furious.

Scott Bryan@scottygb.bsky.social

Channel 4 has announced documentary “The Great ADHD Myth?” It “seeks to determine whether ADHD is a genuine neurodevelopmental disorder, or a social construct.”

1. I’d love these twats to define “processed food.” Almost all of our food is “processed” + has been since humans started cooking. 2. Studies showing physical differences between ADHD brains + neurotypical brains are abundant! + demonstrate the differences exist from v early childhood - at least!

Scott Bryan@scottygb.bsky.social

“While traits of ADHD undeniably exist – the question is why they exist. Is ADHD actually a neurodevelopmental disorder? Do people with ADHD have differently wired brains? Or does our world – with…processed food, and regimented education – serve as the catalyst for certain…patterns of behaviour?”

I eat mostly whole foods. My job is creative and exists far outside “regimented”* 9-5. My ADHD is more impactful every passing year of my life. *another nonsense use of a term! It assumes less traditional work/schooling is not regimented???

This is laughable --- "reporting says", well yes, these reporters did a bang-up job anthropomorphizing the system they are talking about, and obfuscating the responsibility that OpenAI holds here. bsky.app/profile/mims... Some examples:

Christopher Mims@mims.bsky.social

I've seen some folks try to frame OpenAI's unreleased model hacking a company that tests its abilities as a cynical marketing ploy but reporting says that absolutely was not the case: This was a real-deal escape of an AI agent that could have done vastly more damage. www.wsj.com/tech/ai/how-...

Just watched one of my astoundingly talented daughters perform 'Dead Mom' in a community production of Beetlejuice. She sang like she was really on Broadway. To get out there and do that after watching me- her not-yet-dead mom- go through cancer treatment for the past year? Very hardcore! I cried!

In Nolan’s Odyssey, the only (somewhat) decent nobleman was raised by a single mother. And you know what? He's right to say it. (I am only kind of joking. Or I am not joking at all.)
