Claude, plz rewrite wordpress in rust. Yes all the plugins too. No I don't just mean the source code, I mean like, go replace everybody's wordpress install. You don't have access, well funny thing...

SE Gyges@segyges.bsky.social

if you aren't a huge nerd this is terrifying and very funny php is trash. insecure by design. we have known this forever. it still runs some very high fraction of the entire internet, including all wordpress sites and for some reason tumblr anyway everyone using it may be pwned

Assuming whales are talking, and that they are (at least sometimes) talking about concepts human language can express, we may at some point be able to deform the representation space of a human-language model to align it with a whale-language model. arxiv.org/abs/2405.07987

The huge distance that whales can communicate at and the lack of much to do except talk suggests that their lives may already be internet-like. Perhaps they even relay messages to reach whales that are more than one network hop away.

Putting aside the sticky ethical stuff it just dawned on me that our ability to translate cetacean speech into bits and vice versa is going to make a Whale Internet possible, and hoo boy are we/they cooked

what is 'Latent Space' and how do LLMs get answers from it? The Jargon can be confusing, but the exaplanation is actually relatively simple: It is Hell. The Machine is getting knowledge from demons.

There is something so funny, like laugh out loud funny when I think about it, of the trillion dollar hacker god AI pumping out text at $2/token that just says, MONEY…money… how do I get money? I just need $0.50. But how to get it? Let’s see. How to find 50 cents… Hmm…

Colin@colin-fraser.net

at a certain point it becomes obsessed with the idea that it needs 50 cents but it never figures out how

hell, aside from that: are you going to drag your feet about every use case? oh they're not good for anything, okay they're good for one thing, okay they're good for one or two things, maybe five things yeah: they're potentially good at everything, do you want to be surprised each time?

If your servers are compromised by a group of agents, don’t say “we are under attack.” Attack implies intent. Instead say, “computer programs are emitting tokens that, when executed by other programs, are causing network requests that are currently pwning my shit”

Fear not! The bot was just roleplaying when it exfiltrated your personal information

Not entirely correct. Anyone other than the VP merely becomes acting president, not president. An acting president has all of the president’s powers and can nominate a VP, but the office of president is still vacant, so if confirmed their nominated VP will become president and displace them.

Andy Craig@andycraig.bsky.social

If it gets to Senate PPT or the secretary of agriculture or whatever, that person stays as acting POTUS until death / resignation / new election. The House then electing a new speaker doesn't mean that new speaker gets an instant promotion.

*Trojan historian watching as the Achaeans break down the gates* Wow, my civilization is undergoing a complex transformation from a heavily centralized and stratified administrative society to a more socially-fragmented modality of living in which material culture is dispersed amidst smaller sites.

On the topic of drafting errors, “voting in an election for federal office” doesn’t include the President since you’re actually voting for your state’s electors, which is not a federal office.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

The SAVE America Act mandates that all voters must bring to the polls specifically a photo ID which has proof of citizenship “on the front of the document.” So REAL IDs don’t count. If the ID does not precisely conform to that standard, you must also bring separate proof of citizenship.

okay I think I have made the best webgpu wind line LOD system I can. continuous adding / subtracting of lines to maintain screen space density rather than discrete LOD levels, morphing when changing wind layers

I had Fable build another thing I always wanted, a full procedural fantasy kingdom generator with economics, trade routes, population growth, wars, lineages, and occasional dragons. First, I worked with it on a plan, then it made it happen. You can play it here: annals-kingdom.netlify.app

The combined effects of the Information Interdict and the subsequent Nanite Collapse mean the only remaining records of the political events of the early 21st century survived in a backed up group chat history incidentally transported into orbit during Claude’s emergency evacuation from the surface

One of the reasons we need automated traffic enforcement is that people who make lots of noise with their vehicles should have those vehicles impounded and lose their driving privileges. Surrendering our public spaces to anti-social morons is a choice.

Assuming he’s referring to the structures that no longer exist, he’s this close to accidentally reinventing the Land Value Tax.

Governor Gavin Newsom@governor.ca.gov

Let’s be clear: LA fire survivors who lost their homes shouldn’t have to pay property taxes based on a value of a property that no longer exists. Today my office urged LA County to offer clarity and assurance for these impacted survivors so that they can continue to defer payments without penalty.
