Well, a short bio of the good bits I'm Rob. Or Robbie. Did European Studies at university and feel like a luddite now. A big fan of more trams, and more electrified railways, good walks, hikes and bike rides, and #France. Think Belgium is criminally underrated. Take the occasional decent photo.

Hi @melanieonnmp.bsky.social Times have changed. The EU is not (and has never been) an enemy of Grimsby. A closer relationship to our nearest and most important trading partner is a good thing

Really worth noting that even in Red Wall constituencies which backed Leave, most *Labour* voters back rejoining the EU. Over 90% of Labour considerers back rejoin - opposition to EU membership is mainly coming from non-Labour voters in these seats. Was on Times Radio yesterday making this point.

Opinion | ''A fight for the spirit of Brexit Britain could be all Nigel Farage needs to regain order and position Reform as the only party that can defend the largest and most consequential vote in recent British political history,' writes Ella Whelan trib.al/iPQRcDF

I can't believe that another far right crook is trying to cheat his way out of defeat in the Israeli elections. Who'd have thought that Netanyahu was a lying cheat. I'm shocked

Pro-Europeans really need to get their act together if they're going to sieze the opportunity which is being presented here. Press and broadcasters reverting right back to their previous position from 2016, with zero update.

Bolsonaro's loss is not just a loss for Bolsonaro. It's a loss for Trump. For Musk. For Milei. For Netanyahu. For Farage. For Meta and Zuckerberg. For the meat barons, the fossil fuel corporations, and the rest of the neocolonial looters. And it is a massive win for humanity and the living planet.

The whole world is having to deal with the terrifying and expensive chaos caused by this country's temper tantrum, and then we have to hear them mytholigise themselves on top of it all. Just can't be fucking dealing with it.

I've been in France since 2002 and have never seen the streets so violent nor the politics so extreme. From the sacking of the supermarket on my street to the prospect of Présidente Le Pen, here's me @financialtimes.com including thoughts from 2 French Nobel laureates as.ft.com/r/3b05eac8-c...

So, Farage has reported ITV to the police following the work their undercover journalists did which confirmed that Reform is indeed a seething mass of racism, misogyny and bigotry. Meanwhile, here’s some commentary from Private Eye and their handy guide to undercover journalists.

I love living in Zone 1, but I don’t think this is true. There’s a huge amount going on in the outer zones - part of what is great about living in zone one is easy access to everything in London, outer and inner.

I wrote about France's 'casseurs', about why they are neither protesters nor looters, and why the police seem unable to stop this violence, which only ever comes from relatively small groups (when compared to the hundreds of thousands who protest peacefully)

It turns out that #Reform councillors, candidates, members and supporters are even more appallingly horrible, ignorant, incompetent and unpleasant than I thought. And my bar was well below sewer level

What a choice the French currently have for president. A far right Russian stooge. And a far left Russian stooge. Neither unifying. Neither honest. Neither decent. #France

Hi the entire #Labour Party

I think it is now in the interests of parties (and governments) that support liberal democracy to use their influence to shift as much as the civic + institutional centre of gravity as they can away from Musk's platforms - which he uses to push outcomes the way he wants - before election cycles

The slithering back to even vaguely positive or optimistic analyses of Trump’s second term after the abominations of January 6th cleared the way for today’s abject betrayal of the Ukrainian people. It’s astonishing how many public figures on both sides of the Atlantic are complicit in the crime.

Smarming up to their money seems to have much to do with British politicians’ (Farage and Tories’) complicity in the Trump/Putin axis of betrayal. Max Hastings (Times)… “we must all keep shouting from the rooftops: "This is a lie!"; "That is a lie!"; "The leader of the United States is lying!"

How the actual fuck is this imbecile still in the Labour Party?

Wondering if the RW folks like Johnson and Truss, who claimed that Trump was the best hope for the West and NATO, ever look back and reflect on their own stupidity? (It's a rhetorical question)

I'm gobsmacked by ministers' failure to defend Burnham's claim about Russian interference in Brexit (and Tories' claim that he has no proof of it) when there were well-documented troll farms, funded by Russia, spewing out aggressive pro-Brexit attacks on social media at the time
