That is exciting. I got to know Pieter-Jan Derks at the IBM QEC summer school in Tarrytown some years ago. That school produced a lot of great researchers in QEC. Good luck with the startup. Maybe we can run some of your tools on our QEC hardware.

Walrus Computing@walruscomputing.bsky.social

Today, Walrus Computing is coming out of stealth. We’re on a mission to turn fault-tolerant quantum computers into engines of discovery. We build the software layer that makes them useful to anyone with a question worth asking.

UK news really needs to get a grip. Don't press everything into some stupid, emotional reality game show format. The news isn't that Zelenskyy "felt" or "feels" betrayed. The main news should be that he and, more generally, Ukraine *was* betrayed by the US.

I would take more seriously the people promoting the idea of AI consciousness if they first materially grappled with the (much more obvious) consciousness of animals and how that affects our moral obligations to them.

Hi #Edinburgh, your twin city #Kyiv is being bombed 24/7 and needs some attention. I know the bombing is not your fault, but silence can also be a crime. You were active when the full invasion started, but now interest seems to have waned?

I was in Toronto for IEEE #Quantum Week / IWQC / QRE. Here me giving a talk about #guppylang at etc Quantum Software 2.6 workshop and with my co-panelists, Rafael Haenel, Roger Luo, Brad Chase, Sebastian Feld, and Mathys Rennela. #guppy #quantumcomputing guppylang.org

I had the opportunity to attend the International Workshop on Quantum Compilation this past weekend at Xanadu headquarters in Toronto! #quantum #compiling #iwqc

I'll be speaking at this, at 13:00. Can't promise it will be good, but I'd be happy to see you!

Deeply saddened to learn that Rafael Sorkin is no more. One of the deepest and most original thinkers of quantum gravity and the pioneer of causal set theory, he was also among the nicest, gentlest physicists I have met.

For context, to ground the conversation and explain one of the issues. USD20M, which is a self-reported (likely low-balled) estimate of what OpenAI burned in *one week* in their scooping race, would fund 100 full-time postdoctoral positions for 2 years (including overhead). 100 postdocs. 2 years.

Indeed indeed.

Look, it's really simple: if its a work tool, your employer should pay for it, not you. Please don't contribute to normalizing “pay for your own work tools”.

Reading articles on the amounts HE has spent in APCs over the last 5-10 years, and slowly watching my blood pressure rise. Millions upon millions, on something WE CAN ABSOLUTELY DO OURSELVES FOR A FRACTION OF THE COST - what universities couldn't do with that kind of money now... 😠 And breathe...

We want to hire an Offering Manager for our Developer Platform. This means working out what developers need for doing quantum computing, and then making that happen. Experience in writing (quantum) software will help a lot. jobs.eu.lever.co/quantinuum/9... #jobad #quantum #quantumcomputing

jobs.eu.lever.coQuantinuum - Sr. Director, Offering Management – Quantum Developer Platform - 836We are seeking a Sr. Director, Offering Management to join our team in the London or Cambridge, UK offices. Lead the strategy and execution of a cloud-based quantum developer platform that enables dev...

I should add that the job is in the UK and you should plan to be in (preferably) Cambridge or London. If you want a remote position -- this is not it. If needed, we can help get visas for people we hire.

At today's UKRI board meeting, the fate of UK particle physics and astronomy will likely be decided. Have we done enough to convince the powers-that-be to halt the proposed funding cuts? 🤞 Read Prof. Hiranya Peiris in Nature today eloquently explaining why these cuts are wrong.🧪🔭⚛️ 📖: rdcu.be/friwM

Royal Astronomical Society@royalastrosoc.bsky.social

Stars of physics are in Westminster right now to call on the Government to halt funding cuts to astronomy and particle physics research. Professor Brian Cox called them "inexplicable", urging the Government to instead "trust, inspire and continue to invest in the next generation of scientists".

Here's Relational Intelligence. rel-int.ai Why? Current LLMs are unexplainable, no path to efficiency, no path to scalability... How? The same structure governs quantum mechanics and natural language, and cognition more generally. We use this to build AI whose reasoning you can trust. When? Now!

one anecdote: I was searching for a link to one of my old papers on Google, and the automated Gemini summary attributed all of my lab's work to my husband

Mel Andrews@bayesianboy.bsky.social

When utilized in literature review, LLMs consistently 1. fail to mention female authors in female-led literatures, 2. insist that men are more influential or more heavily cited when this is contradicted by objective citation counts, and 3. attribute women’s work to hallucinated male scholars.

It would be very nice if quantum circuit benchmarking suites like MQTBench came with expected results for the circuits in 0 noise environments so that we can test against them. It's easy enough for things like W or GHZ generators but I have no clue what your Grover implementation was converging on
