The elections are on next Tuesday, and so much is at stake, including the soul of the Democratic Party when it comes to transgender people. I am asking you to leave a very small number of races blank in which a Democrat has embraced extreme anti-trans hate. I make my case here.

erininthemorning.comDon’t Vote For The Worst Anti-Trans DemocratsThe Democratic Party should, and likely will, win big in the midterms. We must not send the worst anti-trans voices to join them.

The biggest of thanks to @jessehixxx.bsky.social for pulling an extreme night shift to edit this!!!

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

sorry, but torturing the omelas kid is just a smart move, polling-wise. i personally wish there wasn't a kid in the omelas hole--of course i do!--but let's not get distracted by purity tests, here.

I'd even up that a couple of notches to "why would I want to know about kids' genitals, the fuck is wrong with you?" as an easy thing to say.

Andrew Lawrence@ndrew.bsky.social

“im not interested in your childrens genitals” is just such an easy thing to say

Honestly, this is going to make giving directions so much easier. "You just take Highway America #1 until you get to Lake America, turn right at the America Mart, and then bang your first left on America Street. If you find yourself in Americaburgh you've gone too far."

heya @raxkingisdead.bsky.social - a young genderqueer friend-of-the-bookstore came in recently asking for books about connecting with nature. After further questioning, I sold her "Sloppy". She came back today & absolutely gushed about it (lack of "nature" content notwithstanding). One more new fan!

hi film nerds 🎞️ Wanted to try 6x9 more seriously so I bought the heaviest camera I could find: Mamiya Press Super 23. Shot one roll and I think I'm sold. Here's my doggo on Tri-X 400 (dev'd HC-110) in our just-getting-started local darkroom. On the plus side, I won't need to lift weights anymore

Love this story! Bogotá, Colombia, aims to achieve gender parity in cycling by 2039, as women currently account for only 28% of daily bicycle trips. The city is addressing barriers such as safety concerns and lack of cycling skills by building more protected bike lanes and offering cycling lessons.

theguardian.com‘They were told bikes were for men’: how Latin America’s city of cycling is breaking gender barriersWith less than a third of cycling journeys taken by women, Colombia’s capital, Bogotá, is installing bike lanes, teaching cycling and making sure ‘stereotypes are left behind’

YOU GUYS. I appreciate that the air pollution on the East Coast is awful & we're not used to it. That's real. But this would be a pretty good day in Dhaka or Delhi. Let's keep some perspective & use this experience to increase our compassion & our conviction to do something about it for *everyone*

Hey youse Billy Bragg/Wilco/Solid Sound fans in North Adams this weekend, stop downtown & say hi! We're small, but we've got a killer bagel place, a killer coffee/pastries place, a killer thrift shop & killer antiques store, a fanfuckingtastic plant store, & my own pretty dang good little bookshop!

Reminder: perhaps the easiest & cheapest way to tell Bezos to fuck off is by linking to Bookshop or (even better) an indie bookstore WHENEVER you talk about a book online. W/o a link people will just google it & that will lead to Amazon. W a link you can send a sale to a good business

It's hard to be excited about the Artemis III mission announcements when the CEO of the company making one of the mission's rockets has spent his week inciting racial violence via his personal social media platform.

hey @bhphoto.com , what's with the popup from Bread every time I look at my cart? And each time I answer the captcha, it just pops up again? Same on Edge and Chrome on Win 11. I have $300 of stuff in my cart but I'm not allowed to see my cart, never mind check out? arghh

Starting to think that "the Pope is infallible" is the "Assault Rifle 15" of left-leaning ex-Catholics

Craig Calcaterra@craigcalcaterra.bsky.social

A man unqualified to do absolutely everything has opinions about a person his own religion says is infallible.

Look, I just hope that if SCOTUS strikes down birthright citizenship, they are intellectually consistent enough to require that we take down the Statue of Liberty and send it back to France.

when someone calls themselves a "creator" its fuckin sad. have some respect for yourself! say you make videos or art or write or whatever! "creator" means "i produce chum for platforms in the way they require for better engagement" it means you "chase the meta" and this makes you Not Artistic !!!

FYI for fellow narrative designers/game writers: the studio in question is Sentona Games and it’s my understanding they are currently interviewing to replace me. Be very careful with them. They were very nice to me and easy to work with right up until I needed the money I was promised.

On Monday I sent a plea to the client who owes me $24k for months and months of work, owed to me since September, saying that if they do not pay me by the end of the month I will lose my apartment and that they should show some humanity and pay the invoice They of course have not paid the invoice

TRANS KANSANS: I'm moving this weekend (just two blocks, but still involves packing & carrying literally tons of books) & my apartment will be available to rent immediately. Small town in Western Mass, trans-friendly & with a strong arts scene. We'd be happy to have you. DM for more. 💜 Please share!

The president, who drones on about protecting women’s sports, publicly mocked the women’s gold-medal hockey team. A reminder this was never about protecting women’s sports and it was always about transphobia and misogyny.

The constant condescension about ai is another aspect of it that makes me hate it more. The assumption is you can only be against it because you don't understand it like I do. No man. I don't like voluntarily making every human enterprise dependent on a tech run by a tiny group of financial maniacs

fellow engineers, you really need to start asking yourself some questions when building something: 1. how will the police use what i'm making? 2. what kinds of people are the police going to use it against? 3. how many people will be harmed in silence before we find out?

"Content extruder" is the perfect term for people who use the slop plagiarism machine to make "art".

Courtney Milan@courtneymilan.com

So what's gonna happen there? She's going to have to constantly cycle through pen name after pen name, regurgitating books in different formats, and she'll be joined by thousands of other content extruders all fighting over the same "we fooled you" dollars.

In all sincerity, if they get this through and agree to fund DHS, I will never vote for a Democrat again. I am floored by the spinelessness, and I've been had too many times. It's just embarrassing that it took me this long to figure that out.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) on Thursday said House Democrats will demand a ban on the deportation of American citizens as a condition of winning their support for legislation funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
