The danger of using voxpops in place of real analysis. Cameras are a magnet for motivated activists. These two made it into four different reels + a dozen print pieces. The illusion is that we're getting an insight into "Clacton voters". In truth, we just know what Farage Megastans Jim & June think.

Excellent thread.
So how did we get here, with Starmer on the way out after two years? To some extent, it does go back to the beginning. It was not an enthusiastic victory for Labour. Getting rid of the Tories was the top reason people voted for them in 2024, though with their message of 'Change' also resonating.

One detail in this fascinating BBC investigation into the Russia-instigated attack on Keir Starmer's home is the way it shows, in passing but very clearly, that Tommy Robinson is to all intents and purposes a Russian asset. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Hours like this last one on @lbc.co.uk hosted by @shelaghfogarty.bsky.social are utterly utterly depressing and make me fearful of what the next election brings. Caller after caller of people utterly deluded into thinking that Nigel Farage is the answer to all our problems, as thick as bricks

I am not even remotely surprised by this. So much attention has been directed towards Twitter/X, and while it is a huge problem, much larger groups of particular demographic groups are on Facebook - often those with poor digital literacy.
NEW: New evidence local Facebook/other social media groups fuelling misinformation - filling void left by retreating local media. Misinformation 3x more in areas with little/no recognised local journalism. Misinfo peaks at local elections. MPs concerned www.theguardian.com/media/2026/j...

A please @labouruk.bsky.social, stop saying that it's up to us to stop Reform. YOU could stop a Reform government in 2029, by introducing the proportional representation so many in the country have been clamouring for. The only way Farage can win is through our crazy first-past-the-post system.

Can guarantee the grifting beer-soaked 70s novelty ashtray won’t be hiding from the press today. So while he’s crowing about the elections, can journalists do their job and ask Farage about the £5m donation he tried to hide? And where his girlfriend got the £885k to buy their Clacton house in cash?
He also pulled out of Kuenssberg, refused Newsnight and declined Politics Live. This week. All of them. Full story and video at the link below 👇

There are still people who publicly pretend this man has a moral compass and is somehow completely different to the moral vacuums that he followed. Will the scales ever fall from their eyes? #r4today #Mandelson #OllyRobbins bsky.app/profile/adam...

The Prime Minister’s plan for immigration will keep people working in key industries like care in temporary status for a decade or more, it will keep people in insecure work, make them more easily exploitable, poorer and marginalised - when did that become the policy of a Labour government?

As the police find no evidence whatsoever of illegal family voting or voter coercion in the Gorton and Denton by-election, the BBC should ask themselves why, on the morning of the result, they gave so much airtime to these absurd and obviously racist claims from Nigel Farage
simmo7484.bsky.social reposted
Simple reality is so long as Labour focuses its attention on trying to attract Reform voters who will never support it, and alienating progressives who are leaving for Greens and Lib Dems, via a constant raft of hostile policies and rhetoric against marginalised groups they are toast, and rightly so
Turns out f your main messaging is attacking marginalised groups it doesn't play well with voters. There's a misconception "white working class voters," will support racism and bigotry. Most just want their lives to be a little better. Labour needs to learn that. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Me too!🥺 I think most🇬🇧 people don’t want us to get involved at all & object to🇺🇸 planes using🇬🇧 airbases. I question why some newspapers & news outlets are allowed to continue? They project a distorted narrative, usually the viewpoint of a narrow group. Perhaps banning overseas ownership would work?🤔
I’m livid with the mainstream press and their support of the US-Israel war - It’s unrepresentative of UK citizens. It only represents the rich gung-ho Epstein class. I’m more determined than ever to build the citizen journalism alternative. Join us —> bylinesnetwork.co.uk/friends-of-b...

Dispicable. The US has become a rogue state. End of.
WAR CRIME BY THE US. An unarmed Iranian ship was takIng part in an Indian naval exercise, alongside the US. The US withdrew and torpedoed the Iranian ship. THEN the US refused to rescue the sailors, letting them drown. This is treachery, cowardice, cruelty and a war crime of the highest order.
