Mostly just here to see people’s cats and dogs. Maybe one day I’ll get that travel planning business off the ground and quit lawyering. 📍New York.

For a hot minute there, it looked like DSA was actually a political organization and not just debate club for the most annoying people you've ever met

Peter Sterne@petersterne.com

NEW: DSA's National Political Committee passed two resolutions today aimed at Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman, beginning processes that could result in DSA-LA being forced to rescind its endorsement of her this weekend and/or Raman herself being expelled from DSA by January.

People literally do this all the time, and if both candidates are actually antisemitic "vote for the least bad one" is exactly the right move.

Thank you to the reporter who mentioned that Qui Tam lawsuits already exist in federal law. Trump is too stupid to know that this already exists.

Q: You're offering 1% to whistleblowers for turning in what you're defining as fraud. The False Claims Act, which has been on the books since 1863, offers between 10 and 25%-- TRUMP: At 1% people will make millions and millions of dollars

I think if Ohio voters *really* think about what that ad means, they'll conclude that it means Republicans trust the people who defend pedophiles more than they trust the victims of pedophiles.

This is Nazi rhetoric, full stop. It's not only a call to instigate a race war in the United States, but it's reminiscent of historic European justifications used to incite pogroms against Jews. People who say things like this are incredibly dangerous, as there is nothing they won't eventually do.

Pro-Palestinian protesters gather outside City Hall to call out Mayor Zohran Mamdani for what they see as his betrayal of the movement. "Mayor Mamdani, you can't hide we charge you with genocide" was a chant that just rang out.

On the one hand, it’s comforting to know that Americans aren’t uniquely stupid, voters everywhere have skulls filled with mush and worms. On the other hand, global fascism is probably not an ideal state of affairs.

This is somehow still going, and it’s not just a few random families now; it’s also a former mayor of NYC and governor of New York. There is, again, no way to reason to argue Mamdani shouldn’t attend this commemoration that isn’t fundamentally bigoted

I quite like Ossoff but it’s very obvious to me that the second after he announces he's running for president there will be an extended cinematic universe of smears and conspiracy theories about him across every website, including this one, primarily about how he’s in the pocket of Israel

both Jon Ossoff and Chris Van Hollen have been opposed by AIPAC and backed by the much less awful J Street, but Ossoff is Jewish while Van Hollen isn’t so guess who gets the Evil Red Monochrome background

I think a major difference between Dems and Republicans is that Republicans could turn even the hint of this sort of abuse into a culture war event. Remember the IRS targeting conservative orgs (they weren't but never mind)? Dems mostly don't have a media machinery to gin up this sort of outrage.

BREAKING NYT: Trump's U.S. attorney's office in Chicago has spent the past year investigating a Democratic fundraising firm once co-owned by the daughter of the judge in Trump's hush money trial. The office demanded the firm's internal comms with clients — including Harris, Biden, and Jeffries.

This will reduce potential sortie capacity something like 40% and put unexpected cycling strain on reactors which were not designed for it. Basically indistinguishable from literal sabotage, if you care about such things as readiness or reliability or lethality or whatever

This makes perfect sense when you realize that Cenk, Ana, Brie, and the entire left media punditry got rich off of Trump 1's chaos and then their viewerships plummeted after Biden got elected. That was the status quo they feared from Harris: their continued irrelevance.

“Orange man bad” is the most consistently correct take in U.S. politics for the past decade. The people who disagreed that Trump is a fascist profoundly misunderstood politics and should have much, much more humility going forward.

Peter@notalawyer.bsky.social

This line from Ross Douthat’s final NYT column is something you see all the time from the soft-MAGA right. Sure, Trump’s *most* alarmist critics weren’t correct, but that’s basically true of every president. Trump’s *median* critic did in fact predict his presidency pretty accurately.

Trump is, to borrow a term, intersectionally awful: His incompetence, bordering on an uncanny anticompetence, in each particular sphere is compounded & exacerbated by his incompetence in all the others.

Elizabeth N. Saunders@profsaunders.bsky.social

Can't get numb to this: The United States is stuck in a war it started, cannot end, and may further escalate to no avail, having dismantled its diplomatic apparatus, depleted its military stockpile, and destroyed its credibility. A historic strategic mistake harming millions in many different ways.
