The fact that the ABC is only now threatening legal action over Hanson’s use of Bluey for offensive cartoons post Helen Haines illustrates the problem. Our #auspol media have given a toxic One nation party a soft run with free publicity for years.

Sounds like they should only be available by prescription. Would end worries about perverts using them. Not great for Meta’s profits so you won’t see that being suggested.

The tenor of the public debate around smart glasses has concerned members of the disability community, who say the devices give them more independence.

The ABC is still at it - again, Meta and its intentional design choices are not mentioned a single time in this article. It's extremely bad and harmful journalistic malpractice that very very directly helps two groups: abusers and tech companies. www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10...

Don't know the names on this one. But when I (thankfully infrequently) see Australia mentioned, it reminds me to have a look at new entries from here in the database. There's one new name that made me think, "of course".

The University of Sydney has once again investigated the work of a former research fellow in its physics department, this time resulting in the retraction of two papers over concerns that data in several figures were likely fabricated.

"But Mark Scott is an administrator, so it's appropriate for him to be VC" - ok: make him Chief of Army then. I'm sure he'll do a great job. Oh what's that? You can't just plunk a civilian with no military training at the head of an ADF branch? That's something you have to earn?

Neither of the people in this photograph are qualified for an academic job (see also "Professor" Bill Shorten). I like Ardern a lot, and creating a role using her experience for mentoring is great, but hospitals don't say "we've hired Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman to do heart surgeries this month."

Questions from Sen Shoebridge in #Estimates last night revealed that CASA has been caught napping on Nauru Airlines. Haven't been doing their due diligence on major staffing changes, on safety or the high incidence of flight turnbacks, or on its troubled finances. CASA needs to lift its game fast.

I think the lesson from Lula is not never talk about the opposition; it's articulate a positive vision that's basically, We Can Just Do Things. That's why Mamdani-ism is so popular - voters have an intrinsic sense that their electeds have agency they're not using

“Large AI firms are shopping around the world trying to sell their snake oil and the price is copyright reform. International creative businesses are looking at Australia and cannot believe the government has been duped.” The Albanese govt isn’t just risking Australian IP. It is exposing the world.

Why would a UK business license its TV shows here if they can be scraped at will?

I got the email in this story too... so ChatGPT is telling them to email me also (which explains the growing frequency of such emails). One of the Insta subreddits put my email up as a contact for these sorts of stories, which is where I assumed it was coming from.

In the last few weeks i've been bombarded with emails from people who have minor tech support problems. ChatGPT is telling them to email me, writing their emails, and compiling "evidence packets" after convincing them they have stumbled on a major story: www.404media.co/chatgpt-keep...

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

Just like every form of cheating.

How pathetic. This pro-Bolsonaro Brazilian official relied on the Thiel-backed prediction market (Polymarket) to suggest that Flavio Bolsonaro had won his debate against President Lulu (who just defeated Bolsonaro in the election.) Because Polymarjet is “real” info. 🙄 1/ x.com/delegadorama...

Sometimes it just dawns on me how deeply weird and wild this situation is. A company making a crappy, unchecked and badly designed product, but thanks to pre-existing science fiction narratives they can aggressively tout their own failures and inadequacies as reasons for self-regulation
