if we're complaining about Mass Effect: it's fucked up that the guy who's in charge of all the Reapers is named Harbinger and the guy who's supposed to open the way for the other Reapers is named Sovereign

I've said it before, I've said it again: Bluesky has a disproportionate and extremely loud percentage of users who think it's morally righteous to abuse people as long as it's for a good enough cause, and an even larger percentage of users who specialize in justifying why causes are good.

Sometimes people want to become heroes so bad they’ll make anyone a villain.

Add incense, crystals, and dowsing rods to the Export Administration Regulations. Establish the Temporal Authority Regarding Occult Threats as a new agency under Homeland Security. Prominent mystics either get added to a DHS watchlist or recruited to staff TAROT.

Some people get into political activism not because they want to change their material circumstances for the better, but because they enjoy righteously condemning everyone who is not as morally pure and radical as they are. You cannot work with these people because they will never be satisfied.

Pompeii is a UNESCO world heritage site not because it was remarkable in its prime, but because it survived to our era untouched: one moment, preserved for all time. But future generations won't know what OUR world was like unless we do the same. This is why we MUST bury Toronto with a volcano

Just because breaking a bunch of eggs is a key step if you're making an omelette, it doesn't follow that an omelette will always result when you break a bunch of eggs.

Extremely psyched about The Elder Scrolls VI, apparently it's going to have proper classes, arrow functions, block-scoped variables with `const` and `let`...

tired of the "#1 dad" nonsense. if you're a dad, stop treating it like a joke and post your actual national dad ranking. i'm # 492,018, which is actually really high up there, but more importantly it lets me enter ranked dad lobbies where i can get matched up for fistfights with dads of my caliber

Being married is easy, I don't know why people complain about it. All you have to do is ask what your partner needs, actually listen to the answer, then figure out how you're going to train a variety of woodland creatures to put ancient curses on their enemies. It's literally so simple.

In this era of institutional failure, it is fantastical escapism to explore a world of competent administrators who take injustice seriously. That's what a murder mystery is - a fable of social and governmental decency and efficiency. Take it or leave it.

Describe your favorite games poorly: * Nerd finds mysterious haunted trinket, uses it to play children's card games * Millennials undergo existential crisis around approaching middle age * Small rodent acquires gun, becomes hazard to society

Describe your favorite games poorly: - stabbing monsters is way easier than deciding between superpowered girlfriends or being a dad - my brain disintegration has been put on hold until I acquire every sick-ass car in this city - saving the galaxy from space squid with the power of friendship

I am going to be honest that if you aren’t sure whether or not it would be good if the fascists kill a prominent anti-fascist activist with whom you have developed an inscrutable parasocial antagonism, I really doubt the sincerity of your commitment to leftism or anti-fascism

I have thoughts, and they aren’t going to fit neatly into Bluesky posts. Briefly: 1. The deal sucks. 2. Probably not as much as you think it does. 3. It’s good to be mad. 4. FFS, be madder at the GOP. 5. Strategy is hard. 5b. Timing matters. 6. The fight isn’t over. 7. Go pet a cat. (Or a dog.)

yeah there is a 95% chance that each of us Finds Out via shitpost. which is why the natsec crew can either be upset about sports or cryptic but are not allowed both at the same time

Idk tbh I feel like if WW3 was popping off for real I would see natsec Bluesky post about it with like the “Not great Bob!” gif

My prediction is that in that scenario, he blames the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which puts out employment data. Calls them corrupt, run by Democrats, out to get him. Fires people there, insists their numbers cannot be trusted, White House puts out its own fictitious data to make Trump look good

If you enjoy the SCP universe at all, or just good scifi, I highly recommend qntm's book. This was one of my favorite reads in a while.

qntm@qntm.org

And we have advance copies of the UK edition! The cover has a cool gloss/redacted effect which was tricky to photograph, hope I've captured it (Note, the actual retail cover is different, see next post)

There is one political party lining up to oppose Mamdani for blatantly bigoted reasons, and people of good conscience should vote against it at the local, state, and federal level

Boo!-per Lund@cooperlund.online

Really frustrating to see people insist that "the Democratic Party is against Zohran" when every local Dem who endorsed Cuomo is lining up behind him

Curiously, my very deliberate, ponderous method of speaking truth to power seems to have left me speaking truth to the previous set of people in power, which just so happens to align me with the current set of people in power. What an odd confluence of events!

Unfortunately there are no current issues that demand courageous honesty that challenges our leaders. But if there were, you can trust I’ll be there, speaking truth to power (in two to five years).

Hey, I’m a prominent national news figure and I’m here to promote my new book, in which I tell you I’m boldly taking a contrarian point of view on an important news issue (of 2022) and standing up to powerful men (who have already retired). If only liberals would have courage like me!

I'm her constituent and after seeing the results in South Carolina, I voted for Biden because I cared far more about party unity than any particular candidate

Some advice to the doom and gloom crowd who wanna speedrun straight to armed rebellion/dystopic hoarding - if I can’t trust you to show up to city council meetings and give public comment, what the fuck makes you think I’m going to trust you with a weapon at my back?
