I don’t know how people could say that programming and art are completely different disciplines when both workflows involve going ‘This will never work, I’m a failure’, changing one thing, then thinking you might be the smartest person alive

Love the west pier - used to live across the road. The murmurations of starlings were really quite something when there were what seemed like millions of them living in the wreck. Then there was another plan to get it going again and it was looking promising until some guys in a boat set it on fire

Whoever they were they happened to be protecting the interests of the other pier, which might have lost revenue (and is legendarily run by gangsters) So this is what’s left, and starlings don’t fill the sky any more, and I miss them

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

It’s the 111th anniversary today of the birth of Harry Rée, who was a teacher and conscientious objector when the Second World War broke out, and by the time it ended, when he was 31, had invented ‘blackmail sabotage’ and got a DSO, an OBE, a Croix de Guerre, and a Medaille de la Resistance

are AI coding tools capable of delivering useful work: verifiably yes is there actual real demand for AI coding tools: verifiably yes is that demand sufficient to support the economics: a lot of people would sure like to know!! is AI ontologically evil: to be determined by the RoboWars

It's both shameful and deeply humiliating for what was until recently the world's most powerful democracy to be reorienting itself so that it can be more like, and closer to, a second tier criminal autocracy like Russia.

Reprehensible. Europe must respond with more help for Ukraine to rapidly escalate drone production so that Trump ending sanctions on Russian oil becomes irrelevant. Market access won’t mean shit for Putin if his oil production capacity is annihilated.

Things I want AI to do for me * Emptying the dish washer and putting plates in cupboard * Washing my clothes and putting them on hangers * Using the bog brush to scrape shit from the bog that kids leave there * Putting the bins out * Looking for mould cups that I leave by the sofa

I don’t want to have AI do my writing for me. I don’t want it to design recipes for me. I don’t want its art, its music, its videos.

On 8th Oct 1952 the worst civilian rail disaster in UK history happened in London. 112 deaths. 340 wounded. That accident, and the actions of one woman from Florida have saved THOUSANDS of lives since. That disaster helped lead to the creation of paramedics. /1 🧵 www.youtube.com/watch?v=YU60...

The first computers were human. Now, as computing has been woven into the very fabric of civilization, we are compelled to ask what it means to be human.

Weird coincidence that all this is happening the same day as the AI air control rollout. “You’re absolutely right - a forty five degree angle of approach is entirely too steep for landings, and that’s on me. Would you like me to call some local mortuaries?”

Hey @mozilla.org we use Firefox ESR at work and I just saw an email saying it’s deprecated and we need a new solution but I see nothing on the website about this, is it true?

One of the weirder trends in Big Tech’s AI obsession is the idea that expertise is becoming less valuable. Imagine two arguments: 1. AI enables radiologists to review more scans. 2. AI enables anyone to be a radiologist. “Everyone is a builder” increasingly sounds like Big Tech embraced #2.

Just got outta the TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY 35th anniversary rerelease and Jesus Christ, man. What a movie. They had to do all that shit for real. They had to fly that helicopter under an overpass. They had to blow up that building. They had to find an actor who could turn into liquid metal.

Hey @bsky.app can we have a setting that strips hash tags into normal words? They are just blue noise nowadays, nobody uses them except boomers

Within two years, Australia has managed to drastically reduce its use of fossil fuels because #batteries supply the electricity at peak times. We need much more #energystorage for the energy transition! #ActOnClimate #ClimateActionNow

[taps the sign] According to USGS GNIS "Per Secretarial Order 3453, Lake Ontario has been renamed to Lake America. The basemaps for GNIS are in the process of being updated." So Google (& Apple, OpenStreetMap, & everyone else who ingests GNIS) will start calling it Lake America within a few weeks.

this is both: 1) an extremely stupid situation caused by a deeply unserious individual and 2) 100% the correct product call by google they do this all the time for disputed names, and even change borders depending on who's viewing, e.g. the disputed border between India and Pakistan.

Assume away. You will not be wrong. With regard to humanity, men are generally the biggest shitheads that nature and nurture could possibly construct. In all respects, women -- whether birthed as such or transitioned as such -- are moderately better.
