Am I ready to walk away from Meta? I’ve only been hanging for sentimental reasons.

Winnipeg Free Press@winnipegfreepress.com

OTTAWA – Canadian news companies say they’re worried about changes to Meta’s terms of service and want the company to clarify how they will be affected.

Amazing Winnipeg! So proud to recognize this amazing person who taught Canada so much. Meegwetch!

this is the person to follow and the thread to read to understand all the evidence about Covid vaccines in pregnancy - to sum up - highly protective of mother and baby from covid, no increased risks of miscarriage or stillbirth or premature birth, and covid in pregnancy is bad for mother and baby!

Further to comments from Senators Paul and Johnson on the safety of #CovidVaccines in #pregnancy, people are asking if I still update my table of studies. I've just done so! 1/3 docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Interesting research on the health care and fiscal costs of hot days. Amazing use of Scrubs gifs.

Travis Roach@troach.bsky.social

We know that hot days lead to worsening health outcomes. Surprisingly, we have very little info on the fiscal impact these hot days have on government programs like Medicaid. In this new paper, we match over a million Medicaid records across nearly 16,000 U.S. ZIP codes to daily temperature data (🧵)

When it comes to designing cities for biking and walking, Ghent Belgium may still not be as well known as Copenhagen, Amsterdam or Paris yet, but it’s one of the most inspiring cities in the world. I was honoured to do some work with them in 2019. Watch @streetfilms.bsky.social’s fantastic video:

At the end of the term I asked my college creative wriing students to submit anonymous thoughts on AI. No real surprises: Mood ranges from resignation to despair, capitulation from embittered erosion of standards to total, feelings of betrayal from deep to furious. 1/

Why are public libraries worth protecting? So that knowledge itself does not become privatized. That's the *real* danger of pushing everyone to go to sites like Google or to A.I. chatbots for answers.

I wish this applied to all trans Americans and I suppose trans UK citizens as well now. Protections for gender identity and expression were added to the Canadian Human Rights Act in 2017 and the sky remains in place.

man, university libraries are amazing. you can just ask them to help get some obscure thing and they're like "doing that is actually our job, not only are we good at it but also we are excited to make this happen for you"

For the after work crowd — I would especially love to see more signatories from the special teaching universities and the colleges. I am feeling my decreased reach since we all did a post-Twitter scatter, so please help me share if you’re in support.

Good piece. “If your problem with open access is that commercial publishers are hoovering up all the money, design open access interventions that specifically prevent commercial publishers from receiving your money.”
