The greatest twist in video game history is at the end of Final Fantasy VI when it's revealed that everyone is Italian.

Was watching Buffy’s Anya backstory episode. Friend asked why I sighed. “She’s not of a sufficiently high social class to have domesticated rabbits that far north in Europe in that century, but the writers couldn’t know, the paper was only presented at a conference yesterday.” Accuracy is fleeting.

I love this stuff. Playing Anthropeum had taught me there was a period of real whimsical pottery along the Andes in the mid 1st millennium CE.

This is great because Philadelphia has a deep pool of parallel-parking talent and also a large population who are not aware that parallel parking exists.

you will encounter more opportunities in life to change the batteries on a smoke alarm than you will to run into a burning building and no one gives a shit you changed those batteries but it is still very important and why are you waiting on a burning building, know what i’m saying, it’s a metaphor

First off, you can't just give a pope an orb to look at without making him look like a wizard. And that is not the orb of a good wizard. That is the orb of a side-quest villain who refers to his filth golems as "my children."

TTRPG campaign pitch: X-Men Permadeath Campaign. Start with the original 5 in 1963, roughly follow the arcs of the comics running characters through missions. If someone goes down the character dies, the player has to replace them. You watch how quickly the team becomes unrecognizable.

Ocarina of Time is mostly about the differences between childhood and manhood, which mainly that boils down to having three pairs of shoes that you have to cycle through regularly instead of one.

If I understand this, proto-crocs saw the amount of work proto-birds were doing and said, "screw that, I'm gonna lie in water."

(The actual article is cool, the argument is that back in the Triassic when archosaurs split into the croc line and the dinosaur/bird line, the shared ancestral animal was warm-blooded like birds, and that croc cold-bloodedness was evolved rather than inherited) phys.org/news/2026-08...

Listen up. You know those horrible leg cramps you get in the middle of the night? Next time that shit happens point your toes UP, towards your head, not down. Ends that thing way faster, less agony. Something to do with antagonistic muscle groups or something like that

I posted my thoughts on the new The Odyssey over on Mastodon, where I could properly spoiler tag them. wandering.shop/@thecorodon/...

[The Odyssey, impressions, no spoilers] I liked it. More than Oppenheimer, but I wasn't so hot on Oppenheimer. It does a good job of the Odyssey, and the actors are all great. It's a very Christopher Nolan movie. It makes sure to say its Themes out loud, in simple language, at least once […]

On the phone to my friend at 11pm when a swarm of baby spiders floods over my open windowsill and I go "o God... a spider just gave birth in my living room." And she laughs and goes "you're the spider midwife!" And literally the only way my brain can respond is to just very sadly go "...spidwife..."
