Hey everyone, I'm doing a 75 mile (120km) bike ride along the shore of LAKE ONTARIO to raise money for cancer research, and it'd be really cool if some of you were willing to donate to a good cause.

The political media is visibly chafing at the current situation, where Republicans are glaringly awful, fucking everything up, running deviant candidates everyone hates, and Dems are just being normal & winning. The force is out of balance. They are viscerally eager to go after Dems about something.

JUST POSTED: A Russian energy giant has secretly moved to acquire a position in a massive Alaska gas project. Its part of talks between Witkoff/Kushner & Putin. But CEO of US company resigns after learning of Russian money in the project. A wowzer of a story. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/23/u...
I think a lot of people dont really appreciate how much better medicine and healthcare have gotten in the past couple of decades. While not everything I think the Human Genome project represents a legit inflection point on our understanding of the human body
Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

As a rule of thumb, try to find a house that is roughly 1/4 inch larger on the inside then it is on the outside.
Modern homes are too eager to explain themselves immediately. It dislikes that. A proper house should reveal itself in stages. First you notice the woodwork. Then the oddities. Then the curious alcove. Then six months later someone says, “Oh, that? That door goes to the map room.”

Johnson’s real power wasn’t intimidation(though many found him imposing). It was his intense involvement in the legislative process and wealth of knowledge about Congress and the individual legislators he had to persuade.
(I've always found it a little funny when people post this picture as a sign of dominance or something because like the senator didn't wind up voting how johnson wanted him to)

@persistentpoasting.bsky.social @revan.eurosky.social Thought you guys might get a laugh out of this headline. Near as I can tell the only thing that has happened so far is that Intel and maybe TSMC are looking to build their own fabs on the Texas campus with Tesla/SpaceX being an anchor customer.
Elon Musk said he thinks his companies would probably “figure out how to make chips better than anyone” given their expertise in creating customized equipment

The human brain is an incredible feat of evolution, and the way we experience the world and think is unique to that evolution, but critically its not the only way to achieve the traits most people assign to consciousness. Unicellular slime mold meets many scientific definitions of consciousness
There's the even more fundamental problem that "what is consciousness" is something philosophy has been trying to nail down for 2500 years now with no solid agreement. The above paper provides several traits people have suggested as being external evidence of consciousness, but its far from settled.

At last we have created the Wire Mother from the groundbreaking research study “Don’t Create The Wire Mother”
It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting. Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.

From a very good thread on Theweleit's Male Fantasies and the Malfoid craze. When have you last seen an anime where people date, hook up, where somebody would say 'I used to date X but it didn't work out and now I date Y'? Adult sexuality just doesn't exist even in realistic adult anime.
I think there is a particular flavor of sexism that shows up in a lot of anime. To whit, does a female character -Have only one relationship to a single male figure? -Or have no relationships to men at all? -Or have an abstract relationship to all men? (this is the idol thing)

A multi-polar system is a system in which you've got multiple organizing centers of power *in competition with each other.* When you see this happening at a national level, it doesn't get a nice neutral term like 'multipolar', it's called a Warlord Era and everyone agrees it sucks*.

Some tools out there definitely. But in a lot of cases of B2B SaaS the product is the Service not the Software. People want these systems to offload the liability and certification concerns and costs as well as having a secure and standardized to send and recieve data between enterprises.
SAAS is dead and it just hasnt stopped twitching yet

A useful graph. Presidencies tend to be swingier than Congress, but...: 1968-1992 is GOP dominance, except for a Carter interregnum due to Watergate 1932-1968 is Dem dominance, except for when the hero who conquered Europe ran as a Republican 1897-1932 is the GOP, except when Teddy split the vote
