I honestly don’t know if I’ll want to keep living in this city after another four years of Sutcliffe and Ford and Carney. It’s just austerity from top to bottom.

You work hard, pay your taxes, and do your part. You deserve a city that does its part, too. I’m running for mayor because Ottawa can do better. Not in another four years. Now. Let’s get the basics right, put Ottawa back on the right track, and build a city that works.

Municipal Election Day. I hope we crack 30% participation so more than 15% of the population actually decides who runs this joint. Go Leiper!

Canadians had 10 years to recover from smug lib disease and realize democracy is a sham and we're all in a global fight to the death with fascists, but on the same day that neonazis openly rallied in front of the BC capital...

Lula winning was the good news I needed after my birth province lurching to the right saddened me. Let’s home tomorrow’s municipal elections bring more good news.

I’ve spent at least a little time on voting day in each of my last three campaigns diving in to the bins and spinning some platters at The Record Centre. Tomorrow I’ll be there from 4:30-6. Drop by, say hi, and enjoy some tunes. And be sure to vote!

Under Mark (and predecessor) our social infra has been under funded, under maintained. Where Mark promises more low taxes, more pools, rec centres, libraries will close. 100 are threatened. Want #OurBestOttawa? Vote for @jleiper.bsky.social ! 1/

Let’s be absolutely clear. The Ottawa election promise of low taxes today is also a promise of higher taxes tomorrow. Don’t fall for it.

No point really in responding. I doubt Sutcliffe has ever been on Bluesky. This is posted by a campaign worker. Mark doesn’t listen to us plebes. He only listens to people at 1000$/plate dinners.

You deserve a mayor with a real plan to make life more affordable, strengthen Ottawa’s economy and build the infrastructure our growing city needs.

Close it for 18-24m & repair. Save a billion $. Reopen for cycling & pedestrians (it carries about 7-8% of cross river traffic max); use savings to repair MK bridge, fix truck traffic and other bridges. Boom, sustainable infrastructure investment @yasirnaqvicdn.bsky.social @mark-carney.bsky.social

It's been a bad week for the MAGASTAN embassy in Ottawa. Their efforts to break apart our nation in the referendum went down in flames. So now lying Pete Hoekstra is setting the stage to target us when MAGA gets trashed in the mid-terms.

Wait. I though the only solution was shitty asphalt patches? Who knew? Maybe Ottawa could do this? If they gave a single shit about anything but low taxes and saving nickels so they can waste dollars. 🤬

Workers constantly dig up and relay brick sidewalks and streets in the Netherlands. Water pipe break? Laying fiberoptic cables? The same team opens and closes the and does the work. This team is smoothing out a street that got uneven after 20 years. "It's normal maintenance, just sand below."

But how will you pay for it if you’re keeping status quo and going to hold taxes at unsustainable levels? We have the last 4 years of decrepitude, building on decades of austerity from your predecessor to show for it. Look around you #OttCity: roads, sidewalks, social infra, it’s all worse 1/

My $10 billion infrastructure plan is ambitious. It’s detailed. It’s fair, responsible, and smart. And most importantly, it eliminates our infrastructure gap. See my full plan: marksutcliffe.ca/priorities/i...

The results of the Alberta referendum are basically that they want to stay, but they’re majority racist shitbags and I’m not sure we want them.

Can we stop with calling them just Russian bots; billionaires the world over have the same agenda. They’re all aligned and pushing authoritarian bullshit. They’re billionaire-bought bots. The Russian oligarchs who looted the Soviet state are just one arm of it. American tech bros are just as bad.

People like @rachelgilmore.bsky.social are great examples of who to follow in Canada.

I have a couple thoughts on this! A Monday morning thread. 1. Critical to this conversation is that 53% of American adults get their news from social media: www.pewresearch.org/journalism/f... Meaning algorithms are a significant consideration re: censorship and storytelling.

Picture this on Wellington street in #OttCity; we don’t need chain link fence, bare gravel and hostile ugly places to make transit work.

😱😱😱 And just like that, it’s completely VANISHED from the media. A sitting congressman, Ted Lieu, said on the record the Epstein files are being blocked because they show Trump raped and threatened to kill children. Lets make this viral again 👇

The level of just blatant interference on the part of both Meta and X in Brazilian elections is staggering by the way. Like I don't know how to convey this without sounding tinfoil-hatty but it's insanely out in the open and obvious.

"The rally for Lula in São Paulo impresses with its size. Avenida Paulista was...taken over. I dare say it's the largest rally of this election and the last ones in terms of number of people. If the PT's intention was to show strength, the goal was achieved with plenty to spare." -- @alexaguiarpoa

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

Another day, another watermain break (Riverside/Vanier Parkway at Tremblay) in Ottawa. Leiper has an actual plan for addressing this shortfall from years of Watson and Sutcliffe underfunding rather than handwaving and hoping the province and feds save our ass.

And yet. Your initial housing TF resulted in what exactly? City still killed projects that are exactly what the city says they want to see; what if we simply did what OAA had been recommending since 2014 and what i recommended when we met in 2022 (reform planning)? 1/ substack.com/@toondreesse...

substack.comThe Challenge of PlanningPolicies meet reality; it shouldn't be this hard to build housing

I'll reconvene the Housing Innovation Task Force and bring in AI experts to find new ways to speed up housing approvals and reduce planning costs. We’ve cut red tape and made it easier and cheaper to build homes in Ottawa, but there’s more work left to do.

How is this idiot polling above 1%. AI experts? How about listen to the actual experts that all say the same thing. Oh right. Because developers have other ideas and that’s who will pay you after you leave politics.
