One of the many incredible things Pedro shared was how Meta's AI bot within WhatsApp refused users' asks to make a poster for Lula but granted it for Flavio and when asked to make mock poster for, say, a dog they added Flavio's electoral number - as in vote for #22. In Brazil, vote is by #.

In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

Indeed, controllers should not forget that EDPB's guidelines on the technical scope of Article 5(3) ePrivacy Directive state that collecting data entered by the user on the device is still subject to consent. Looking at all you news outlets collecting email addresses for server-side tracking!

I'm quoted in this story about the British celebrity - you probably know who - seeking an injunction preventing the press from reporting further details of his sexual harassment and crime. Quite incredible chutzpah to argue that he should be shielded from the consequences of his own wrongdoing.

Really feels like the larger issue here is that our politicians are still taking their cues from discourse on "x," a website largely built around the interests of racists and csam enthusiasts, and from which all normal people have long since fled.

No TDs should be allowed on the Internet until they can pass basic social media stress tests. I'm being 100% serious. We can't afford ministers making decisions after getting piled on on social media cause theyve rotted their brains and connection with real people by spending too much time on twittr

The criticism the DRCC has faced this week is unwarranted and harmful. If you can, consider donating at DRCC.ie. You can also write to your TDs, as I have, expressing your concern that a government would censor a campaign that raises awareness of the bodily autonomy of children. contactyourtd.ie

In fact, Minister Jim O'Callaghan posted his statement criticising the DRCC campaign to X. He has not posted anything there about the sexual abuse imagery scandal that the platform has been embroiled in.

This government, who moved with rapidity to remove this campaign from circulation, targeting a charity with attacks on their credibility, responded earlier this year to the mass production of non-consensual sexual imagery on X with little more than a shrug.

If you choose to silence a campaign put forth by that organisation you would want to have better reasons for it than angry online commentary. Every government representative who has come against this campaign should be asked what evidence they are bringing to the table.

If you're coming up against the evidence-based policy of the DRCC you would want to come to the table with more than the angry opinions of those not interested in doing the work of dismantling a culture of sexual violence.

The DRCC's campaign was informed by consent workshops and designed to reflect the real-life experiences of participants. The government's response was informed by the discomfort of those who took the messaging in bad faith.

If your response is to silence the people who do that work, and have a longstanding reputation of doing it very well, you are part of the problem.

The DRCC's campaign gently pushes us to confront hard truths. If your response to that is retaliation, you are not prepared to do the hard work of facing up to the root causes of widespread sexual violence.

I’ve slept on it now and when I woke up, I was still still mad about it. This morning, I’m going to ring the constituent office of my local FF TD and tell him just how mad it made me. Then I’m going to call the constituency office of my local SF TD, and ask if Matt Carthy’s support is their view.

No, I’m still mad about this consent business. I don’t think it is enough just to say it.
