Please God get rid of Netanyahu. I know the alternative isn't great but it's better than more of him with Ben Gvir and Smotrich.

This is just the maddest argument. These people would trap us in poverty to keep a decade old commitment, which no one ever actually made, to an electorate which no longer exists.

The speed with which so many execs cozied up to this authoritarian says more about their revealed preferences than long term strategic thinking. They saw a chance for what they saw as a "business friendly" autocrat and oligarchic consolidation and jumped at it.

if only there had been a way to predict this might happen based on nearly every midterm election cycle in modern american political history

Golly @matt-forde.bsky.social why did you not crow your accession to the MCU from the rooftops? Fantastic!

I agree. I think AI has huge potential, but LLMs are essentially plausibility generators not truth generators -- and there are limited applications where accuracy is not important. If that means humans have to check everything, the productivity gains could be extremely modest.

Yes. In the case of AI, “training” and “inference” are separate. In other words, once an AI network is trained - which may take months - it is fixed. It is not updated by interaction with a user. By contrast, the brain learns from/updates itself from every engagement with the exterior world.

Neal Shepperson@nealshepperson.bsky.social

"The brain’s 20-watt efficiency is remarkable, but it also relies on a biological body, years of learning, and evolutionary optimization. AI consumes far more energy today, but it can process vast amounts of information at incredible speeds and scale. The real challenge isn’t just making AI smarter;

A reminder: the human brain, which exhibits “general” intelligence, something AI has not achieved, uses a mere 20 watts, less than the power of a lightbulb. AI is using 100s of data centers, each needing megawatts to gigawatts, to achieve only artificial “narrow” intelligence

Marcus Chown@marcuschown.bsky.social

If an exponential increase in computing power is needed for an incremental increase in AI capability, it’s the unmistakable sign of a technology hitting the buffers.
