Sometimes I wonder if I’m the guy from Brazil, keeping my head down as a government of violent errors foments all around, naively imagining what a hero I could be in a revolt

mtsw@mtsw.bsky.social

not just me but I feel like BRAZIL's reputation is built on the 30ish minutes of it that really work even tho the larger movie doesn't hang together at all. Gilliam's entire career as a director is kinda like this tbh

But so hollowed out by a lifetime of acquiescence that ultimately I’m more likely to be a liability for the people I imagine myself saving before getting crushed underneath it all myself

Yes. The conservative scheme for education is a three-way split: high-priced academies for the children of the wealthy, religious instruction to brainwash the middle class, and a rump of prison-like public schools to discipline the lower class into obedience.

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

the other thing is that conservatives resolutely do not see the purpose of education as providing social mobility but as reifying and deepening existing inequalities of status. they are as hostile to low income students getting admission to elite institutions as they are black ones.

“Word foam” or maybe “code foam” is exactly the right word for LLM output It’s using its database of word associations to autocomplete, it pours out and then you have a lump of text It’s a mush of logical stringing, smooth on the surface but internally inconsistent and mostly a whole lotta gas

zendarva.bsky.social@zendarva.bsky.social

The same thing as *what*? What did the post i was responding to say brains do? Take in electricity. Emit words. That's it. Whole thing. Delta some hippy nonsense about word foam.

fun fact: in 1992, berkley replaced columbus day with Indigenous Peoples day. then no other city or state did until 2014,when i was a policy aide for Alondra Cano and some friends and i convinced her to pass the resolution in Minneapolis. i got to write it and plan the celebration.

What can you say? This was the definite winner they will never top. Also one of the best things I've seen at any PRGE #PRGE #PRGE2026

the replies to this contain 100,000 variations of the "sickos" comic with different self-insert fursonas in them and that's beautiful

Honestly all those “retiree loses all their money to bitcoin scams” could also just be tax evasion, “dang my money was stolen welp can’t pay taxes on it”

I love this meme because of the newsworld background, that’s the background I see behind every insane politics/tech/finance post I see, like they somehow broke into CNN headquarters and grabbed the mic

This response, obtuseness about bad faith, is what would happen if you went up to a wrestler and talked about wrestling being fake “Kayfabe? I never heard of this term. I’m merely a normal person who gets a body slammed for a living. You people are unbelievable.”

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

In response to people going after him for this, Friedersdorf claimed that he genuinely had no idea Rufo had anything to do with the Haitians in Springfield slurs and then got mad at people for acting like he was being a complete rube.

This is legit making me tear up. All the work, time, emotional & physical labour, mental anguish, creative energy, and passion that we’ve poured into organising over the last 3+ years has been worth it. I always think I could have done more but this is the best thing I’ve ever been a part of

Loads of support over the weekend from players too. It’s been fun watching several posters steadily get filled out with messages. The unions have also given away nearly 7000 pin badges featuring the emblems of the different Blizzard units.

There are endless studies showing this and also the financial and societal benefits of universal basic income and or housing-first policies but the U.S. never goes for any of it because it would require allowing the poor to receive benefits that the rich consider “undeserved”

“A single-payer universal health care system could cover every American, save more than 100,000 lives a year, and still cost $1 trillion less than the system it would replace, according to a new preprint study led by researchers at the Yale School of Public Health.” ysph.yale.edu/news-article...

One of the smartest ideas I've seen in the last few years is instead of trying to find "the Joe Rogan of the left," buy up the news sites of defunct papers and put some money into providing local news coverage in rural areas.

Street drugs are cheaper and stronger than they’ve ever been, and they’re far more likely to kill you. The government’s advice hasn’t changed much since Nancy Reagan, but drugs have. Now, scientists are writing their own rules and we have a guide here. Read more: www.playboy.com/read/politic...

The state police got back to me and said "hey, you asked for a lot of records, can you narrow it down?" and I was like "why don't you give me a list of the days that you deployed helicopters to surveil protests in Boston." So now I have that list. There are 60 instances from 2020 to present. 1/?
