I’ve always said we live in an age when anyone can have a little box in their pocket that gives instant access to all the world’s experts and knowledge repositories. And yet people turn to pajama-wearing conspiracy theorists and rumor mongers for their news.

Yeah, this is really, really bad. A return to folk tales and rumors as knowledge.

David Roberts@volts.wtf

Jesus Christ this is the most chilling thing I've read in ages. The "new understanding of truth" described here is not new in any way, it is basically a return to pre-literate dark ages & the inevitable result is going to be fascism.

John Roberts and his gang keep twisting themselves into pretzels to pretend the Supreme Court isn’t systematically favoring whites and Republicans over Black voters and Democrats. Trump keeps coming along like a wrecking ball with a bullhorn demonstrating what a sham the court is

Trump calls for invalidating (primary) elections to gerrymander new maps for 2026. The Supreme Court for 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 has ruled that replacing illegal maps “too close” to elections is too burdensome on election administration & Republicans get to hold at least 1 election with illegal maps before redrawing

Horrific. Every feeling human being should be outraged by what Israel is doing in southern Lebanon, destroying it like Gaza. Instead, with this rare and important exception, it’s not even on the radar. Gift link. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

I still cant get over this. How you steal somebody's life... (he was 28 years incarcerated for a crime he DID NOT commit) He gets out, gets a law degree. Runs for office.... WINS... and then they steal the job

Louisiana Republicans have eliminated a city clerk position in New Orleans days before a Black man was set to take office. “It’s a sad thing to see the state government repeating what happened to Black public officials during Reconstruction,” said Calvin Duncan, who was set to take office Monday.

As my colleague David Rosnick puts it: the Roberts Court is just calling the balls and strikes. The problem is that they do it before the pitch is thrown.

Anyone remember the Purcell doctrine, saying courts shouldn't change electoral districts too close to the election because it might cause confusion? Remember how SCOTUS applied it six months ago to say it was already too late to invalidate the Texas districts? Funny how that didn't happen in Callais

The President of the United States is threatening to commit war crimes and wipe out a "whole civilization" — all because he started a disastrous war of his own making and had no plan and no strategy for how to end it. This is abhorrent, and the American people do not support this.

This is hilarious because it implies that her husband DID call her while she was in space on the ISS to ask her help in looking for something. 💀🌌

This video from Portland is a metaphor for what is going on in America. ICE trying so hard to get Americans to cross a line and if they don't, dragging them across the line and violently attacking.

Over the past week, the president said the DOJ should pay him a quarter billion dollars, bulldozed half the White House to build himself a gaudy ballroom, bragged about murdering civilians in international waters, pardoned some more criminals, directed federal prosecutors to indict his opponents ...

They won’t agree obvs. But he is making a point that he has nothing to hide.

BREAKING: Jack Smith is requesting that Congress and the Justice Dept. let him testify in public. In new letters to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees, Smith says he wants to testify "in open hearings" because of "the many mischaracterizations" around his investigations.

Reminder: the President may be allowing his secretary to undermine access to vaccines for others and promote anti vaccine misinformation, but he himself is fully vaccinated, including this year’s flu and Covid vaccine. In this, do as the president does, not as his secretary ‘s ACIP minions say.

Remember, Posobiec co-wrote a book that declared progressives were "unhumans" and that praised Franco and Pinochet for their murderous war on leftists. That is, the guy who promoted Pizzagate essentially endorsed political violence. I wrote about that here: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Incredible. Jack Posobiec references the earliest version of antifa -- the anti-fascists in the Weimar Republic who were opposed to the Nazi Party -- as the bad guys.

The government “shutdown” isn’t really a traditional shutdown because the administration has decided to spend and/or withhold money however they please regardless of appropriations or budgets. Why are we paying Congress if they’re going to be an irrelevant debating society?

“The president should be removed from office because he is plainly insane.” I mean, there is no war in Portland. There just isn’t. You can’t & won’t avoid reporting this story. But you’ll still find a way to try to report it in a way that gives him the benefit of the doubt. And that’s wrong.
