Was talking to my wife today about hobby stuff in a general sense, and she said this: "The search for the perfect hobby tool is people who traded their time for money realizing they don't have time to practice, and trying to exchange money back for time." And now I'm fucking haunted.

Today I had an AI system give me the wrong reason for a transaction problem, had to go through three circular loops of "What's your problem -> Lets connect you with someone -> What's your problem", and then direct me to an entirely incorrect department. But sure, this is days from ending humankind.

So I checked, and not only is that a thing, but there are TWO CHARACTERS who have that as a power. One is Mikiko Kawamoto from Devilman, the other is Melona from Queen's Blade. I can't tell if this is a two nickels situation or a second character has hit the towers situation.

personally I think we should just take the ai doomers at their word and shut it down if they’re telling the truth, well, good thing we shut it down. If they’re exaggerating, well, they shouldn’t have done that

“until they all start fighting each other then the protestors sneak away” speaks to a very Looney Tunes cartoon view of how things happen. Like, there’s no puff of smoke that surrounds the agents while comical but bloodless violence ensues, people would get hurt if this actually occurred!

Take a break from being depressed that everything you love is being destroyed by slop for a moment and let me tell you about the beautiful symbiotic relationship between graffiti writers, train yard workers, and model train enthusiasts.

Somewhere rattling in my brain when I think about gaming is an essay titled "The Pleasure of Figuring Things Out."

Incredibly sad but playing the original Pokemon games was honestly the last feeling of true discovery in my life. Since then literally everything has been explained in detail online and I know exactly what to expect upfront before I commit any of my time. We've all lost something

I have to assume Substack is throwing some fat stacks of cash at prominent authors to launch on the platform in 2026, in exchange for ignoring the fact the company openly embrace nazis and white supremacists for engagement

Once, due to Circumstances, we had "Car Church" on Christmas because we couldn't make it to mass. Importantly, no one involved in this considered themselves a luminary on Catholic doctrine.

Warhammer needs a sim city type game where you build a hive and have to fend of genestealer infections, mutie uprisings, political machinations, occasional orks etc all while keeping the population balanced between downtrodden and rioting

I don't think there are that many comedy writers who could have resisted the lure of a six figures + benefits salary to be, essentially, The Poster's Cyrano de Bergerac.

Agreeing with this, *as one of the squeamish*.

You know what? People who don’t like kissing don’t have to watch romances. Sober realists aren’t forced to sit through SFF. Grouches can eschew comedy and squeamish people are welcome not to watch horror films. Just let things exist for their target audience.

I'm concerned people think I'm joking about this.

I like the part of the Odyssey at the Phaeacian court where Homer has Odysseus turn to the camera and say: "Now, we've all been having a lot of fun here today, but let's remember who the REAL heroes are---the hardworking bards and harpers in your own neighborhood. Remember to leave a tip, kids."
