You can do the same thing, buying a house and borrowing against it—ha ha, just kidding, normal people get taxed annually on their wealth via property taxes, the "you can't tax wealth, the economy will collapse!" rule applies solely to the super-rich.
For the fabulously wealthy, paying taxes is pretty much optional. They can borrow against their vast wealth, which is mostly an untaxed capital gain, without paying taxes. When they die, the capital gain goes to zero. And loopholes exist to bypass the estate tax too.
The Meidas reporting on the calamitous lack of preparation and its consequences to US service members and their families at Middle East bases is pretty incredible. Hegseth will either be fired or he’ll be impeached and resign.

I'm not sure how much more blatant it can get that these guys are looting the federal government and then pointing over there and saying "look what THOSE BLACK PEOPLE ARE GETTING AWAY WITH!!!" bsky.app/profile/atru...
Stephen Miller claims Somali-Americans in Minnesota are "buying Mercedes, buying BMWs, they buy a nice house, all their kids fly first class all over the world"
(This is a lie!)
Judge Reyes is ordering Woodward to refile submission from last night with as many DOJ attys willing to sign it.
J: DOJ attys: raise your hand if you youj're willing to sign it.
Woodward: not an appropriate request.
J: right now, for rule 11 purposes, which other attys willing to sign this brief

There is already a wealth tax. It’s county property taxes. The issue is most people hold a significant part of their worth in their home, but uber-wealthy people do not. They’re being allowed to escape taxation on the great bulk of their wealth.
Even better off people are taxed on capital gains and dividends in their investment accounts. These are essentially wealth taxes. Again, very wealthy people are disproportionately allowed to escape taxation on their wealth.
The generation that got to buy cheap houses thanks to a postwar construction boom, then blocked new housing construction to juice their asset values is now whining that they have to pay taxes on their unearned wealth. Just breathtaking selfishness.
Aside from this being an old act, the closer we get to election day, the more desperate the lies will get. We’re already at free money of various kinds, trans surgery in schools, prices are really lower not higher, all Dems are communists, high interest rates are good, and more.
Trump: "We have 5 states where your child goes off to school as Tim and comes back as Tammy 3 or 4 days later. It's true. And teachers make a decision. 'Goodbye Timmy I love you so much, I'll see you later.' And you say, 'Where's my son? My son is in the hospital.' Can you imagine?"
I mean, this was their explicit threat in 2022 and 2024. Trump has openly weaponized the executive branch against his political opponents and bitches that his minions aren’t doing enough.
Mike Johnson threatens us with a good time: "If this group took over, they would turn every committee of Congress into an investigative body. They'd spend every day investigating the president, the first family, the cabinet, donors to the party, leaders of business ... "
There will be a lot of equivocating about all the times search warrants have been executed on members of Congress for corruption investigations and the like, and it can't be stressed enough in how many ways HSI raiding Ilhan Omar is extremely not like that.
Having the distinct feeling this morning that as the consequences for the fascists become clearer, they’ll go to ever more desperate lengths to stay in power. Not a great feeling.
Three days: sanctioning the international criminal court, announcing that the firing-squad execution of NH will be live-streamed, investigating the WH press on bogus antitrust charges, searching IO’s home on transparently pretextual immigration charges, financing Putin, jettisoning Zelensky.
for as long as i've been alive, republicans have ran the same playbook: a few weeks before voting begins, they roll out completely fabricated smear campaigns. these things are always coordinated, so the talking points take over the news. the party is never electorally punished for their dishonesty.
Sen. Chris Murphy: "Right now members of Congress are being denied the ability to see the damage at these bases because there's a coverup underway. There's a coverup underway to try to hide the cost of this war and the debacle it has caused in the region."
The United States is now officially allied with Vladimir Putin and Russia. We will fund Russia’s genocidal war machine in exchange for Putin helping Trump and the Republican Party in the midterms. One of the most shameful and disgusting days in the history of this Republic.
The GOP attracts the absolute worst people to elected office, especially in the MAGA era. Frauds, sex pests, crooks, bigots, philanderers, batterers, you name it.
SCOOP: Rep. Max Miller's girlfriend of nearly two years was just indicted by a grand jury on three charges, including grand theft. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment.

These MAGA “conferences” seem to just be opportunities for the rubes to see lesser tier right wing celebrities throw red meat at them. There’s no actual policy discussion. Just the grifters and those from whom they grift.
First round of speakers announced for TPUSA’s annual Phoenix conference AmericaFest including Epstein buddy Steve Bannon, Nick Shirley, Spencer Pratt, Cubs player Matt Shaw, former Nick Fuentes affiliate John Doyle, Franklin Graham, Karoline Leavitt, and vice president JD Vance.
Ossoff is definitely not listening to Yglesias/Klein/PodSave reactionary centrist crowd, he does not think his marginal voter is a white-supremacist, and that is what makes him such an attractive candidate to the vast majority of US who are not white-supremacists.
Unmentioned is the $100MM/week cost of the naval blockade, the skyrocketing insurance cost for transiting the strait, and the much higher cost of overland transportation.
Q: How do you define socialism personally?
JD VANCE: I think in reality what it actually means in the American context is you want to replace American workers with foreigners workers, and you want boys to play in girls' sports
This has been obvious for a year. GOP voters are not switching, but staying home. I’ve been saying it.
Turns out it’s not enough just to allow folks to let out their inner racist. You have to not intentionally make their everyday lives worse. Who knew.

Lafayette Square isn't "a historic protest site." It's a fucking park. And it's packed on nice days. Calling it a protest site is White House framing.
They're closing a popular public park to create a presidential palace Saddam Hussein would love.
Killed. NSF’s SBE was killed, in violation of law. The President does not have the power to choose to kill programs at a whim by defunding them. The imperial presidency was a mistake and we are in a separation of powers constitutional crisis.
The right wing scare ads during football games today are really gross. Anti-trans, anti-immigrant. These people have no actual ideas to make people’s lives better. It’s all scapegoating and grievance.
Trump: My Administration will, immediately, begin sending 'Checks' of nearly $100 to over 20 MILLION wonderful Seniors to help pay for their Medicare Part B premium ... This money will come from the Medicare Improvement Fund, a pointless 'Slush Fund' that has only been used by Dumocrats ... "
My investigators have confirmed the Trump administration is hiding interview documents it conducted with some of Epstein’s banks, and there could be more. There’s no limit to how far Scott Bessent, Kash Patel and Todd Blanche will go to continue this cover up.
🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Sen. Ron Wyden says the DOJ and FBI withheld a secret interview with a banker tied to Jeffrey Epstein from the files released to the public. And he says there may be more.
These idiots are obviously unreachable, but they’re a tiny minority of voters. The other part of Trump’s unmovable base is the outright fascists, and they’re similarly small in numbers. You’re not converting other Trump voters as much as helping them decide to give up and stay home.
"He's gonna fix it. Believe in him ... all the abortion, it's evil ... I want to see 2 people -- Trump & Jesus...we do not want Muslims taking over...I have horrible thoughts. I don't think they should be here. This isn't their country...they need to pack up & go back where they came from."
