“A promise of a vote on healthcare” is nothing

Primary any Dem Senator that votes to reopen based on “a promise”. Have they had their head buried in sand? MAGA cannot be trusted, ever.

I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for some healthcare today? WTF Congress? Do your fucking job, Republicans! You can pass a budget tomorrow without one single Democrat voting with you. But that's not the issue is it? It's destroy Congress at 47's demand and then try to blame it on Democrats, isn't it?

DEMOCRATS CAVED--to an illusion of a vote! "As part of Democrats’ agreement to end the shutdown, Senate Majority Leader John Thune is promising Senate Democrats a vote in December to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies that are due to expire at the end of the year short of Congressional action."

I get people are mad. But truth is Dems have almost no leverage. Because: Trump & Republicans LIKE the shutdown, as it helps them destroy the Federal government per Project 2025. I say reopen the government and let the Republicans self-destruct with their awful laws and deeds. Nov 2026 will be epic.

A promise of a vote?🤬WTF?! We need them to stand firm and ensure that our safety-nets, health-care, secure travel, work and the ability to keep a warm home and put food on the table are not collateral damage. #NoCaving #StandStrong #FightForUs #PeopleOverPolitics

They feel more and more like the fake opposition that is allowed to exist to take blame and appease the masses with a few tid bits now and then. They are owned by the oligarchs.

If the compromise requires any change in the House bill they have been working on, won't the House have to come back into session to approve the change? And if it does, won't Speaker Johnson have to swear in the new representative from Arizona as soon as it does?

GOP promises = meaningless 1 Any deal with republicans must be in writing, signed on camera 2 A second document is also signed on camera: it states if they don't do the promised X by date Y then this document is irrevocable notice that they resign their seats on date Y.

(1) A “promise of a vote on healthcare.” That’s Washington for: We’ll pretend to care until cameras leave the room. The sick don’t need promises — they need doctors, meds, and mercy. Not another round of political charades.

(3) Every time Congress says “We’ll vote later,” it means “We’ll bury it deeper.” Healthcare doesn’t fail because it’s complicated — it fails because suffering is profitable.

I have yet to read one logical reason from any of the 10 Dems on the cave list. (There is none!) If Repubs are willing to vote in Dec why won’t they vote now? Because in Dec they got what they wanted and can vote NO on the ACA extensions. Do not trust a Republican!!!

HERE ARE THE 10 CENTRIST DEMOCRATS VOTING TO END THE SHUTDOWN: Peter Welch(VT) Jacky Rosen(NV) Tammy Baldwin (WIS) Mark Kelly(AZ) Jon Ossoff(GA) Gary Peters(MI) Jeanne Shaheen(NH) Dick Durbin(ILL) Maggie Hassan(NH) Elise Slotkin(MI)

We're they ever getting anything out of this? If they believed it was possible - they should hold the line. But if there is no realistic expectation of a win - neither party's interests are served dragging this out for much longer. The Dems have momentum. Getting bogged down risks losing it.

I agree but the compromise isn't actually terrible. It only funds the government through January, so we can have this fight again in January. Regardless of that, it secure SNAP funding for all of 2026 and prevents Trump from firing more federal workers. It's not deal but it's not terrible.

As I said, Dems come out of this knowing that the GOP has really looked terrible throughout. And if they are smart enough they can probably sell it with a "We're the only adults in the room" narrative. Could they have gone all in? Sure. But with a weak hand? Maybe best to fight another day

I really hope I'll take a lot less shit in comments responding to my posts about how useless Democratic party "leadership" is now. These people are literally complicit with the GOP - they are one party - the uniparty, all owned by the same extraordinarily wealthy people.

The solution: 100% publicly funded elections. No fund-raising with billionaires, corporations, PACs, or Special Interest Groups. When we fund their campaign, they will be beholden to us. And overturn Citizens United. Corporations are not people. Money is not speech.

Everyone who will be paying double to quadruple in two months thanks them for absolutely nothing. The people who went hungry because they haven't received a paycheck thank them as well for absolutely nothing as well.

Basically we have all been taken for another ride by Chuck Shumer, King of caving in. There will NEVER be this kind of leverage with popular support again. He is throwing it all away on the heels of a historic Victory. Make it make sense.

Disgraceful. How much contempt for the voting base does it take to vote, now-- after the voting base gave you total victories, and turned out in huge numbers-- to stab your own voters in the back.... what is it about 'winning' that scare establishment Dems so much...
