Katyal: "I was able to go to court - the son of immigrants-- & say on behalf of small businesses, 'Hey, this president is acting illegally.' I was able to present my case, have them ask really hard questions, & at the end of it they voted & we won. That is something extraordinary about this country"

And the best part is, you can continue to get justice from every subsequent court... right up until you get to the Supreme Court.

Why can a President’s behavior be interpreted as illegal, and yet still be treated as if he hadn’t done something illegal? No punishment for doing something illegal?

Katyal deserves all kinds of credit for his expert lawyering. But "we won" is a stretch. Donald stayed a hair away from outright stating 'I defy the Supreme Court'---but that's essentially what he will be doing. The same tariffs will remain and continue to be imposed, just under some other pretext.

"Friendo" sounds vaguely dickish. I didn't say that it didn't happen in some places. But the number of people, and countries, that looked aspirationaly towards the US was significant. Now they don't. It's sad. But I shouldn't have made such a blanket statement.

The US Constitution/Bill of Rights were models for the world with historic changes that bettered humanity. The eventual protections, not perfect, of native/Black Americans/women/minorities are models. Until 45/47, we were still a nation of laws. Now we must rely on other nations for their examples.

Good b/c the US has arguably done more than any other nation to advance global tech innovation, foster postwar economic development & establish modern democratic and human rights norms, significantly shaping the modern world. But we are now challenged by greed. It can happen to any country.

I like Katyal but no it is not extraordinary other democracies can hold their leaders to account and not simply on an issue of a tax. Korea - ex President in prison for a coup Brazil - ex President in prison for wrongdoing UK - member of royal family facing charges Please set a higher bar

Not extraordinary. That’s how it’s supposed to be. And how it is in most functioning democracies. See example set by UK and South Korea just this week. Time to move past platitudes about American exceptionalism.

Indeed. Liberal American exceptionalism is as stupid as conservative American exceptionalism. There's nothing exceptional in what was said above. Oh wow, an American born lawyer managed to get judges to apply the law, bravo America.

Considering that yesterday, South Korea locked up their former president for life for his attempted coup... France is in the process of forbidding Le Pen from running for president next year for being a corrupt crook... Brazil sentenced Bolsonaro to 27 years in jail for coup attempt... Sorry, what

Actually it’s ok Felon of 34 The PEDOING POTUS Trump isn’t too smart we see this! However seeing the CULT GOP sit around on their fat asses and didn’t support American citizens knowing well the TARIFFS WERE ALL ILLEGAL and DID’NT DO ONE DAMN THING AS MASSIVE SCARED 🐓 💩 THEY ARE!! DESPICABLE!!

It’ll really be extraordinary if the order is followed. If not, we are where we started. Congress has to kick him out which leaves us with Vance who will have to be kicked out which leaves us with…I forget if it’s Johnson or not.

We didn't win shit. Brett "The Profiler" Kavanauigh provided instructions for Mango Messiah to follow to just continue as if this ruling never happened and thereby buy time for more challenges to get jammed up in the courts. They are already advertising that as precisely what they're going to do.

I like how having a functional judiciary, any amount of immigration, and free enterprise is exceptional now. We are praising normalcy because of these aberrant times, but that's no reason to mythologize basic democratic functions.

And the above law rich pedophiles that rule us are still free to steal our $ & rape. @nealkatyal.bsky.social 1 win doesn't make us great til our above law criminals including the 6 GOP SCOTUS on the take are locked up assets seized. DT is still free to crime nothing to celebrate til he is locked up

This is why there 3 branches of gov; the executive branch, judiciary branch and, the legislative branch. All to PREVENT a AUTHORITARIAN/DICTATOR taking TOTAL control of our government. Thank GOD for tht!

The MAGA judges on the Supreme Court always let us win one case before they vote to do something horrible for the country. It’s been their pattern. They will vote to overturn our election laws & allow tRUMP to have his goons remove voting ballots & machines after an election.

It's extraordinary to see THIS Supreme Court function as its supposed to after a few years of shockingly wrong decisions. I am grateful that Neal Katyal represented the people of the US against the President that is abusing his power.

Also extraordinary about this country: bsky.app/profile/beve...

Kindergarten teacher: "I mean, they seem like nice people, or whatever, but if they're taking up resources from our country ...." I agree. Gardeners, cooks, construction workers, healthcare aides, delivery drivers shouldn't take up resources from our country. www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...

Maybe nichol Wallace should just stfu. This man just won a big case and she pressured him on on his views on shit that doesn’t matter. She said I don’t see why he didn’t want talk about it. This man has won many cases so anything he says the scotus will remember what he said. She’s getting worse. FU

I didn’t see that interview. But given that Katyal’s law firm, Milbank just signed a $100M pro-bono deal with trump—so trump wouldn’t give Executive Orders which he promised would negatively affect their mega-big clients…. I can see why Wallace was quizzing him. 🤷‍♀️

A microcosm of everything right and wrong with this country. We attract the best and the brightest minds of the globe while the jealousy of the "poorly educated" as Trump called them simmers at those who are not white rise in status and station.

It worked this time. Gonna need to keep at it so that Felon doesn't completely destroy the Nation/World. He is that ill. Secret Service should have whisked him away to a secure geriatric psych unit LONG ago...

That's the power of the rule of law, and a system that allows even the underdog to have a voice. What's the most surprising case you've worked on?

Early in T2, Donald verbally attacked Katyal on social media, Katyal who is a Legal Scholar just ignored him, and DJT backed off. Today, it was Katyal's legal augments presented at the US SC that rid the country of DJT's Illegal Tariffs, Donald didn't attack Katyal, instead the Justices.

Excellent job. Like a spoiled, megalomaniacal, brat, Trump resents having to consult with anyone, even a Republican congress, because he believes his anachronistic, punitive, authoritarian and addled understanding of the world must be the last word. Ie he needs to rule on a delusional whim.

Is it fuck extraordinary, all democracies with rule of law allow legal challenge to the government. I'll tell you want they don't have, however - politically appointed supreme courts. American liberals full of shit once again.

Not even for a little bit. See, AT&T Mobility v Conception Brnovich v DNC Burwell v Hobby Lobby Citizens United v FEC Dobbs v Jackson Women's Health Glossip v Gross Kennedy v Bremerton McCutcheon v FEC Rucho v Common Cause Shelby Co v Holder Trump v Anderson Trump v Hawaii Trump v US & dozens more

Glad it happened, but just saying: this is absolutely in no way extraordinary in democratic countries, and this obsession with American exceptionalism and the US somehow being "first among equals" compared to other democracies is a large part of why we are in this mess

Well, I don't know those of you who are critics here, but taken as a whole, the US legal system, based on jurisprudence from England (same as Canada), is a unique system for resolving disputes between the people (the legislative body) and the executive (president, premier, authoritarian leader).

Holding the government accountable for its actions is not extraordinary in any democracy, regardless of the specific build of that democracy What IS extraordinary is that there was no guarantee something so blatantly illegal was going to be deemed illegal by an otherwise corrupt judicial system

Abuse of power. SCOTUS just ruled 6-3 that Trump does not have authority to implement tariffs without Congressional approval. So what does the petulant child do? He immediately implements a 10% tariff on all countries. He’s defying the Court. Impeach and convict.

There are a precious few who, in my view, have earned an elite lifestyle. If they choose to do so, and can exercise reasonable control. Mr Katyal is one. Marc Elias is another. ✌️💙

🇨🇦🇺🇦🤔I wondered if Neal Katyal was taking on the illegal Trump Tariffs case. Looks like he’s gonna be rather busy the next 3 years- I hope he “gives it” 💪🏼to Trump, Bessent, Navarro, Miller & the others who endorsed this asinine idea of his. 175 billion in refunds? Guess WHO is gonna cut & run?!

Can we have a conversation about how much Trump grifted/profited from his tariffs? Vietnam allowed him to build Trump golf course. Switzerland & Tim Cook gave him gold. S. Korea gave him a crown; Amazon, Google, Apple, Target, Uber, Pfizer donated $1 million to inaug to avoid tariffs.

Katyal, IMO is TOPS! & psychologically speaking, the loss removes a cudgel Trump used to threaten, self-aggrandize & to get his own way, so NOW FEELS LESS POWERFUL. But, Alito, Thomas, Kavanaugh still feeding the baby so the baby can STILL SPIT IN THE FACE of others. That's the sin of the dissent!

It's all bullshit! If the courts or justice system worked we wouldn't even be in this position. Rape, pedophilia, theft, fraud, killings, kidnappings, tax dodging, insurrection, vote manipulation, bribery, extra judicial murders... our country is lawless and broken as fuck!

And we the Bluesky people thank you. Us the Bluesky community deserve a huge pat on the back for helping the process along with our efforts to make everyone aware of what’s going on.

Lol they are all free trade capitalists got nothing to do with the constitution(they ignore it weekly), look at who they are reimbursing! The corporations, who passed the tariffs on to us. You will get nothing and prices wont change.

His firm charges exorbitant rates. And he has also fought for corporate America over weaker victims. I love that he won this case, but to say that he is 'beyond reproach' might be a step too far. Clearly he is talented and I'm so happy he won the case!

Katyal is submissive to a Court that is insanely out-of-control. Yes, he won a decision, which never ought to have been before the Court. Anti-constitutional, anti-democratic authoritarians have NO ROLE to play in America. The majority of SCOTUS are treasonous to the Constitution & democracy.

I admire you. But please stop with the “extraordinary” country stuff. It’s extraordinarily bad compared to any other modern democracy. How about some boring competence for a while America. Then we can all get on with our lives.

But he still won't follow what the court says from here on out. Unless everyone comes together and pushes back hard, trump, from here on out, will not do anything Congresses or SCOTUS says, they've capitulated themselves out of relevance.

If the court wasn’t such a rubber stamp most times for the regime these small businesses and consumers wouldn’t have been hurt. The court has the opportunity to uphold the lower courts rulings last year and stay the tariffs until the Supreme Court heard the case. They refused to. It’s on them too.

What about all the MAGA loyalist enacting these illegal criminal operations? What about their oath to the Constitution? The financial crimes are just as bad as the Venezuelan murders and the ICE SS. Like Epstein, they're all #co-conspirators.
