30 percent of Americans are against [squints at notes] the Pope urging peace

Of course it would. Spiritual Imperialism has been a cornerstone of Christianity since it left Rome millienia ago. But the tl;dr would be that folks that claim both Christianity & Hate believe in the Church as a force of Rightous subjugation, rather than a message of divine peace and love.

I stand with the Augustinian son of Chicago and Villanova University. Silence would be viewed as acceptance. Pope Leo XIV hasn’t called out Trump by name - he has only stated the obvious. The fact that Trump, Hegseth and others see themselves on the wrong side of peace and justice is on them.

I am convinced that the vast majority of ‘I only carry a gun for my protection’ types actually only do so because they are *desperate* to kill someone.

Because that’s when “Woe” starts as in Isaiah 5:20: "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter."

Well... there's a conflict there for these people. 47 is their 'Jesus' so obviously the Pope is incorrect and has no idea what Christianity is about. 🙄 so much for no false idols .

Actually the Pope’s controversial speeches started before the war & were never directed at Trump. Trump just thinks he’s the center The Pope is an Augustinian PEACE is kind of at the core of their order Its the pope’s job to address conditions oh humanity Now— whose really against PEACE

The only reason I’m not comfortable saying there’s a second holocaust happening is the concentration camps and genocides aren’t happening in the same places. But an awestrucking amount of people are enthusiastically consenting and endorsing both.

The same ones that think he's the second coming of JC & that he really is losing $ by being 'potus' (it def deserves quotes) & is fighting for them. The same ones who call themselves Christian but fail in any true measure.

Trump's popularity is at around 36%. The percentage of the US population who are Evangelical Christians is also around 25-30%.

No surprise. Amerikkka is a very violent nation. It thrives on violence. It breathes it in like a rose scented perfume. Amerikkka is a VERY sick place. When your nation consists of a citizenry of stupid, ignorant and depraved cult members, there's little hope. CHEER for the end of the Empire!!

I'm guessing they picked Trump in the Trump vs Pope match so they're just against the Pope. Hopefully, they don't find it offensive that a religious leader urged peace, but really - who knows?

And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, SCREAMS what is wrong with America today. MAGA, or The Great Unwashed, will side with the Mango Mussolini come hell or high water, for whatever reason and to their own peril.

30% of colonists favored the king and fought against the American Revolution. About 30% favored the South in the Civil War. Nixon’s popularity was 24% at the time of his resignation. I think we can safely say somewhere between one quarter to one third of the population is wrong all of the time.

Those are the same group of people whose favorite passage is where Jesus told Peter he needed to eBay a bunch of stuff so he could buy more AR-15s. Because you never have enough. And the one where Jesus beat up all the lib moneychangers.

What do you think all those Reform evangelical fundamentalist nondenominations were doing with the youth programs in the 70’s 80’s 90’s 00’s? Setting up the new generations to run the 7 mountains project. They’ve been educating youth for decades to abide by the 30% mind control ideals.

I can’t even comprehend a single person who would take issue with anyone urging peace— much less opposing the Pope, who is earnestly calling for there to be peace. We can attribute that 30% to the insanity of maga. This👇is where they are.

The same 30% who would shoot themselves in the face if trump told them to. Let's face it, one third of this nation are irredeemable shit-eating bigots with billionaire dom fetishes.

Also just over 30% of the population voted Trump in 2024. (2024 only had a 64% turnout rate so an entire 36% of the eligible population didn't vote)

I agree and so true! And the other side to that is that even terrorist groups and or sects think they are Religious and following their God. The contradiction here is that these 30% or so are Republican & a CULT. Wonder if we will ever see a Jonestown reenactment? Maybe at a ballroom event?

A sizeable portion of them want Israel involved in a war as they think it will bring on the Apocalypse and the return of Christ. Some of them want Israel destroyed in that war as it’s part of the prophecy they believe, even though they support Israel under normal circumstances.

Catholics and Mormons. They're like the Hispanics when counting "White" vs "Non-Whites." When they want more Whites, Hispanics are White. When they want more "minorities," Hispanics aren't White anymore.

Weirdly, I know some “born again Catholics” (didn’t know that was a thing until I met these particular people). For these specific people they are absolutely choosing party over pope. smh.

So who do they believe kept the faith for the first 1400 years? I think if they would learn church history they might be able to get their heads around it. But I don’t think they read.

First time I heard it was a couple of decades ago, when I was teaching the first half of a European history survey and we were discussing the investiture crisis. A young man popped up with that comment. I admit having to punt - in the moment - as I had no clue what he was talking about.

Unfortunately, only God calls shots about who is Christian or not, not “Christians”, “Catholics” nor “Evangelicals”. Intrusion into God’s jurisdiction can be troublesome.

You should see the creepy drumpers that pepper themselves all over Oregon. When they find someone like-minded, it's like they found a new best friend to talk about their crush with! They also bemoan social security while on social security themselves. It's insufferable.

about the same % of a MAGA heavily influenced by Klan inspired Xian Nationalism. The Klan hated Catholics. The question no one asks about a "Christian" Nation is which particular brand of Christian will be in charge.

Exactly, a core of evangelicals, the christofascist right is rife with dominionists and opus dei. The christofascists will eventually get around to Catholics and the "liberal" denominations. We have a loon as a secretary of war who is a true believer in Xtian domination of the world.

I hope when their cult leader finally dies, they'll wake up. Like in The Mummy (the good one, not Tom Cruise abomination). When evil Imhotep is killed all the people he enslaved woke up, and dead soldiers he called back to fight for him crumble to dust. Either works for me!

Those 30% can suit up in military gear, to go over to Iran themselves, send their kids, or else shut the fuck up and let serious people be in charge of things that are important.

I suspect either/both will be thrown under the 34-felon bus. That's the problem with authoritarians; they can't support anyone but themselves. Republicans have really backed themselves into a corner.

One of the ways in which political consultants are broken is that they don’t recognize how many people will answer a survey with the dumbest answer because they think it’s funny Consultants treat it as an accurate view of people’s thinking instead

Here in Texas, in an ad, Paxton uses video of Cornyn saying we should have compassion for the 12 million immigrants in the US. The act of compassion is considered a sin by the maga movement. Screwed up country we currently live in.

Cornyn should respond with Paxton’s version of governing, besides being corrupt, is taking Christ right out of Christianity-leaving something akin to inanity.

I agree with the sentiment of your post. However, in early churches as attested by Pauline letters and acts of the apostles slavery was standard practice and people were reminded that being a brother/sister in Christ had no bearing on a person’s station as slave. And slavery was just as cruel then.

True. All kinds of horrible stuff in the Bible; incest, murder, betrayal. Even God was pretty vindictive. SOME humans were misbehaving so He sent a great flood that killed everybody, good and bad alike. I admit I didn't finish the book, it was too anachronistic.

Ah, don’t get me started😅 Among dozens of examples: God having a wager with his minion Satan (clearly Satan’s role in Old Testament) about Job and both practically murdering all of Job’s children. And all the times Jesus likens his believers’ relationship with God to that between slave and master.

I'll believe evangelicals give a shit about Jesus when they start holding up "Matthew 25" signs at sporting events instead of "John 3:16." Because John is just a confession that they only care about getting their own sorry asses into heaven no matter how rotten they live their lives.

30% are likely the ones who preach their alleged faith but don't live it; who don't have family or friends serving or having served in the military, who don't have lost family or friends in battle or whose family members or friends have come home from war zones with both visible & invisible wounds.

It's past time for everyone in this country to accept that ending our white supremacy problem means ending the white supremacists. They must be subjugated and disempowered in every single aspect of life.

I live in Tennessee. Catholics are not considered Christians here. In fact, Evangelicals hate Catholics. Because Evangelicals believe they are God's chosen people and he just loves them more.

They're all mainly focused on hellfire and damnation. I have been told many times I'm going to hell because I'm Catholic. I just tell them to stop reading OUR book. You're missing the good messages it provides. 🙂

Shocking but not surprising - and I guess you have to discount for those who are theologically obliged to see the pontiff as the antichrist and so don't really have a choice in the matter.
