Second, slavery abolished? Not in American prisons where prisoner labour is sold to American companies. The prison industrial complex in the USA is incredibly racist. It imprisons more people, per capita, than any other society in human history. This isn’t abolishing slavery, it’s rebranding it.

He's got his federal history wrong. The 15th Amendment (1870) enfranchised black men and previously enslaved men. It took another 50 years of fighting before women were enfranchised by the 19th Amendment (1920).

And that companies and mega-conglomerate corporations have also gained voting rights...

"abolished" is a bit generous but otherwise he's absolutely right. This country has strayed very far from the idyllic form it was intended to be, and it isn't impossible to guide it back towards that imagined state...we just need to be clear eyed at how difficult it will invariably be.

Watching all the documentaries on America's history, you see Al Gore and Hilary Clinton over and over again. It's just a shame that real students of and patriots to our history and story didn't get to lead.
