I wonder if they allow FOX β€œnews” there? Opinions aren’t facts, unless they are true. Untrue opinions are misinformation or gaslighting, real opinions are a question that hasn’t been answered and should be presented as such. Just say’n.

False Statements Statute (18 U.S.C. Β§ 1001): It is a felony to knowingly and willfully make any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation in any matter within the jurisdiction of the legislative branch, even if the person is not under oath.

If here is Australia, every single member of the political class would be looking for new jobs, there might b a few exceptions, but right now we the voters have to try to sort through the lies to find even a modicum of truth.

If politicians could be removed for lying, the United States would have a functional government. If Republicans were ever forced to be truthful, they'd never regain power again. It should be a felony to purposely lie about a political opponent during a campaign.

An intentional false statement about facts. Expressing your feelings or beliefs is okay so you can say "I believe the world is flat" but you cannot say "the world is flat" as a fact. Some vagueness should also be allowed eg. "I recall about a million Americans died of COVID".

You should also be able to repeat information with a cited source so long as you give that information accurately and don't misattribute false information or incorrectly cite its source.

Sometimes a person learns new information and changes their opinion. People can be quick to call them a liar. Like with Fauci. It’s good to learn and adapt.

See? You are looking at it from the American viewpoint You people need to be told what to think After all, you still can't work out that raping women and fucking children is a red line The rest of the world doesent need a crib sheet

I'd settle for banning a network that calls themselves a news network for consistently lying to the public, obscuring the truth, and spreading conspiracy theories. I'm talking about Fox News.

HAH! You’re funny! I’m 68. I’ve known MY WHOLE LIFE that US politicians make their bread and butter from lying to the public. Agent Orange comes to mind from the 70s. Our problem today is that politicians no longer simply spin a story to make it sound more positive. They flat out FABRICATE stories.

Now do that in America. Oh wait we would only have a handful of truthful politicians. Most politicians start out honest but lobbyists and billionaires corrupt them with shiny toys and money.

It would have to be judicial review with appeals. It obviously shouldn't be for trivial thing. Saying students are getting involuntary sex changes without parental consent would, however, qualify.

Wales has a devolved parliamentary system (still part of the U.K.) & is about the equivalent size to New Jersey. Despite the intention I don’t think it will make a big difference-losing parties would use this law to make accusations on winning candidates in an attempt to trigger re-elections πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Because of the β€œSpeech and Debate Clause,” they can say whatever they want. There should be a restriction. If one utters a lie on the floor, it can be challenged. However, outside of that chamber, they should have to tell the truth - unless info is classified. No comment works there. πŸ˜‰

"FIRST"!!!!!!!!!!!! If it said last it would be more believable; but FIRST!!! So everywhere else it's just a slap on the wrist at worse. Terrible. Should be an automatic dismissal. Period.

Part of the problem is you have to prove it was a lie and not an honest mistake or misspeaking. Those things happen. But the approach should be to have them confronted with the facts and if they won't recant their fallacious statement(s) publicly then they are fired.

I've found that in 2026, a lot of politicians are so self-unaware in terms of their actions that they forget about the receipts in the form of online footprints. It's when they get red in the face defending their lies that they should be jammed under the microscope.

I concur with your post. However this would be a major Way to stop them beforehand they would have to think twice about what they say to avoid the repercussions or fallout. I like it I wish we can implement that here in the US. It would be a dream.

This should be standard procedure all over the globe - the fact that it is not says a massive amount about politics as a profession. No wonder the planet is so messed up...

The ultimate American paradox: fighting for the top spot while simultaneously obsessing over who is second. We don't just want to win; we want to be the most influential runner-up in the room.

America Dreamteam about it. You all will loose your democracy, if you not vote for it Only Chance is to vote for a democracy state with democrates. And in two years you need a president, not from Maga like JD. Wake up!!

boy, that would clean house of a lot of the liars. the biggest orange one on top, should have been canned long ago.

Where the hell was I? This is the greatest idea since Apple Pie! Of course, while I vote Democrat across the board, this is a real opportunity to clean up both sides. I gotta do some research and find out how they did it. We need this badly. Why has it taken so long for someone to do this? GO WALES!

Actually, yes it is. It's a constituent country that is part of the United Kingdom, Wales has its own devolved parliament and governmentβ€”known as the Seneddβ€”which manages local matters like education, health, agriculture, and the environment. So it has its' own politicians

Well, it is not an independent country... as autonomous a region as it is. Does not change the new requirements imposed on politicians. I wonder how an honest mistake is distinguishable from a malicious lie from a lie born out of stupidity or ignorance...

Telling lies (or a single one) used to be the death knell for the careers of many Dutch politicians. That all changed during the β€˜Rutte decade’. Now too many of them lie and cheat without consequence

Since 2017 at least a dozen authoritarians have resigned, been ousted or sent to prison. One of those was Jair Bolsonaro. After Bolsonaro was convicted, the Felon threatened to impose 50% tariffs on Brazil imports. Economist Paul Krugman called Dump's actions "trump's Dictator Protection Program!"

Rodrigo Duterte – β€œHitler massacred 6 million Jews. Now there are 3 million drug addicts. I’d be happy to slaughter them all.” Police estimate that his β€œwar on drugs” resulted in more than 6,000 β€œsuspected” drug users being killed, by "death squads."

The Felon to Duterte – β€œI just wanted to congratulate you because I am hearing of the unbelievable job on the drug problem. Many countries have the problem; we have a problem, but what a great job you are doing and I just wanted to call and tell you that.”

Wales, like Northern Ireland and Scotland, IS a country within the United Kingdom, each with its own government and national identity. Parliament, Prime Ministers, and those perpetuating measures of "Britishness" act as if England is the big cheese, the minder of its lesser siblings.

Yes, the United Kingdom is, indeed, recognized as a sovereign state (political entity) that brings together 4 constituent countries (cultural entities, 3 with devolved governments with specific legislative responsibilities). A sovereign state can unite 4 constituent countries via its Parliament.

Politicians seeking reelection should submit to a lie detector test with simple questions like - Have you lied to the American people while in office ?; Do you believe in the Constitution and the rule of law ?

I don’t hope but yes, dream of a better future for everyone. I’m a taoist (daoist), no praying. I’m an optimist that is a resister who protests with my signs. I’m also a contributor. I’m hardly ever on my ass… I don’t like to sit still. Very motivated.

We already have the machinery and laws in place, but Congress are chickenshit unresponsive dullards. Telling the truth could become the standard and lying about something big could get you impeached by a legislative check.

Well only about 10% or less of your elected politicians would support such an initiative, so not holding my breath. But hey, hoping is free...

The people elect these politicians to represent them and safeguard their interests. If you lie to the people, you should step down immediately. I mean, what is the point otherwise? No one elected them to office so that they could deceive the people and violate the very purpose of public office.

I’m not so sure of that. US politicians lie and have lied. Partisan Voters vote party-line and ignore the lies from their party and claim the other party is lying. Voters keep voting for elected officials who lie. In our workplaces, the CEOs and managers lie to subordinates.

I think individuals that are voted in via the electoral college without the popular vote should be forced to walk on eggshells and should never be able to use taxpayer funds for self-congratulatory adverts and campaigns.
