Thread numbering is out of beta! Threaded posts are now automatically numbered, to help you follow along. Check out the automatic numbering on this thread to see it in action.

v1.132 is live! Starter Packs are one of the best ways to find new people to follow—but how do you find the Starter Packs? As of today, look for them right in the main search box. You'll see the results under the Starter Packs tab.

If you’re not seeing numbers on this thread, try updating your app or refreshing your browser!

Now if you would just stop resetting my Settings after I leave Bluesky (most of us with any sense clear the browser cache after every internet use). I have to select "Do not automatically play/load gif/video" every time I logon.

Thanks, but I do not configure my browser for any websites, nor should I have to (refer to Roy Thomas Fielding's 2000 Ph.D. dissertation Architectural Styles and the Design of Network-based Software Architectures).

Bug? If you reply to your own post over a week later, it assumes it’s a thread. Just my opinion, but I typically think of a thread as replies within minutes of each other — either drafted all together or quick, subsequent replies. Maybe a time threshold would be good?

No that's how it's meant to be from An email thread doesn't just stop being a thread because a reply wasn't within short timeframe of previous ones Sure it may have been in our minds deallocated from immediate recall memory so requires a quick refresh to joy the memory

What you want is a timeboxable lock/unlock feature on skeets and replies so that "freshness" isn't refreshed after a set time much like a poll expiry time & similar to locked GitHub issues or forum posts etc

I see your concept, but it's wrong. Twitter-alikes *aren't* email. And if we were imitating email threading, other people's replies would be included in the numbering. This feature isn't/shouldn't be imitating email or forums, it is merely a workaround having very short posts.

Oh! And also, make it so numbering also happens to reply threads, not just initial threads. Eg, this is now a threaded reply to @bsky.app, so my previous reply (starting w "Nice!") should say 1/2 and this reply to that reply should say 2/2.

i think this should be some sort of opt-in or intentionally-selected feature for people who want to write or create threads. after scrolling bluesky for the day after this update, it feels too busy/distracting. a lot of posts are not really "threads" - they may just be people replying to themselves

What the fuck is thread numbering? Can’t we just have decent threading instead of all those stupid little lines can we please get the option to remove our self from a thread without doing anything else other than untagging ourselves and can we please have a do not share button on posts thank you.

Please have a way to enable or disable it because it's very annoying and not wanted in most situations. Making a post and then replying to it later is not a thread somebody is going to get lost through. It's 2 posts. Everybody can see both of them.

If you already produced a long thread but forgot some details, will "replying" to the last skeet prolong the thread, thus changing the number?

IMO there should be a tooltip when you mouse-over the thread number. Not everyone is an expert in the twitter and Bluesky spaces, so for some people seeing some weird numbers in a box is confusing.

It thread counts replies to comments on original thread making it more of an OP post and reply count than thread numbering. Still useful and better than nothing, but more like description to remove OP count with other user posts in between (not timeline).

i don’t think this is works well in all cases. it’s not a bad idea, but i don’t think it was ready to come out of beta. in fact i think it needed more time in the design phase bsky.app/profile/sars...

hey @bsky.app this automatic numbering thing doesn’t work with divergent threads watch: first post

I was getting a lot of pages in the app that wouldn't load and a red banner message saying that the server gave an invalid response and may be out of date. Didn't happen when using the web. Updating the app fixed it. Just an FYI in case others are getting the same message.

True. Here, now, on Brave desktop, even if I squeeze the screen to "become mobile", the numbers are indeed visible On my Fennec on android, it isn't working. Later I will clear cache and try again. Thanks

That's not even the right UI for this. I presume you put it at the end of the text because that is were people put the number manually a lot of times. But the correct place would be in the post header or footer (name / time line, or post actions line). You know, like page numbers.

You have 37 million followers. This post is 40 minutes old and has 4 replies. Clearly you've done a terrible job with this site/app and it needs WAY more help than another bad update.
