Really? The media keeps screaming that any slight increase of taxes on the rich will mean a mass exodus of them. Are we saying that taxes can be increased and... more revenue comes in? Maybe those people yelling at Mamdani destroying NYC were... lying?

The thing about the obscenely wealthy is that you could take away like 90% of their hoard, and they would still be in the very top tier of humanity in terms of money. It would probably not even be noticeable to them on a day-to-day level. So yeah, they're not gonna flee NYC over free busses.

And no one’s leaving Massachusetts, either, where they actually have a wealth tax and have collected more than they thought they would. In fact, the number of millionaires in MA has increased. It’s a better place to live, y’see.

We know this. The rich only leave if the artists and the culture leave. They have been threatening to leave for decades but they won’t because big cities draw out some of the world’s most talented creatives. The artists leave when they can’t afford to survive. Starving the artists is bad, actually.

Mayor Mamdani will make our city more livable & safer and our govt more efficient if he does even half of what he seeks to do. Everyone’s lives will be better, especially the richest NYers. And all they need to do is pay a tiny bit more in taxes. Tax the rich.

“Major businesses are adding significant square footage and there is urgency to lease even more office space in New York City with no sign of any looming corporate exodus caused by democratic socialist Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s election win.”
