CPSC we live in Seattle. It's wet ten months out of the year. Summer is the only time we can SAFELY use ladders!
Mind you, we just use the ladders unsafely the rest of the year.
I used to go up there to clean my gutters. But I haven’t done it since I quit drinking. Apparently I’m too nervous to do it sober. Remarkably, I never fell off my roof while scampering around drunk up there.
I have a clematis Montana, a roguish vine sometimes called the monster clematis, that has decided to grow hellbent into the eaves of the roof despite there being no sun there. Up the ladder I go.
Putting the awning back up, to block out the sun. It’s a very tall ladder but if you get high up enough you can escape gravity and the associated fall risks
Because I couldn't reach my 2nd story roof to replace shingles blown off in the windstorm without a ladder. I tried flapping my arms, it didn't work. Jumping worked only slightly better and was still entirely inadequate to the task.
My sister’s paramedic instructor once had a patient who fell off a ladder *directly into a bonfire.* The answer in that case seemed to be that he was very drunk and thought it was a good idea. He was fine, btw.
That's from "King of Oklahoma." The narrator fell off said ladder, developed an addiction to prescription painkillers, and watched his life spiral down the drain.
All because of a ladder.
"Doctor took a quick look and I got out the checkbook
And left with a pocket full of pills
Now my back's still hurtin', and I'm too weak for workin'
And I can't keep up with all the bills"
