Every year, people are betrayed by their optimism. "Fireworks have exploded in other people's hands, but surely they will not explode in mine. My hands are different."
These are the same people who go into the ocean when the guards are off duty. The same people who drive through flooded streets. The same people who think the gates at the train crossing are for others.
Friend, to a firework, your hands are the same. To a firework, your hands are bones and gelatin to be ripped through with incredible ease. Don't hold that lit firework, friend. Lite it safely and follow the manufacturer's instructions. That's how you have a safe and happy 4th.
You've got to think about that famous scene from 'The Rock' (1996). Stanley Goodspeed is holding the "string of pearls" virus container that he's just removed from its housing. He looks Sean Connery dead in the eye and says, "The second you don't respect this, it kills you." That's the energy.
Do you have any safety advice for the situation wherein, having lit the 25 pack of bottle rockets and briskly walked away, a very excited but not very bright dog unexpectedly grabs the 25 pack and circles its humans at warp speed while shooting us with bottle rockets from her mouth?
And don't light them in places where it's illegal! During this heatwave DOUBLE CHECK before you light 'em up, because seasonal bans on fire hazards are a thing.
Since SCOTUS now days manufacturers no longer have to print safety warnings on their labels, I’m not sure it’s enough to say follow the manufacturer’s instructions
Did not have "becoming a fangirl of any government agencies under the current administration" on my bingo card, but here we are. Always good for an informative laugh, keep it up y'all.
My mother was a nurse in the burn ward of a hospital for a long time and always cringed through the 4th when we’d shoot fireworks as kids (even w adult supervision).
Be careful this 4th because you absolutely do not want to end up in one.
A friend was holding her baby on the back deck of her house while her spouse lit bottle rockets in the front yard w their older kids. Firework went off in the wrong direction, over the roof and down the shirt of the baby in my friend’s arms and exploded.
My mom worked at an ER too! She still talks about the little boy who came in with burns all down his back because somebody lost their grip on a sparkler they were waving around. Sparkler went down the back of kid's shirt.
As a kid we were setting little green army men on fire and I had flaming plastic drip onto my hand. I learned to swear like a sailor and respect fire like firefighter at the same time.
