🚨Wow - this will be huge if it bears out. Exit polls show the pro-EU D66 party has WON the Dutch election. The far-right PVV party of Geeet Wildsrs has lost 12 seats, according to exit polls. Huge if true.

What Americans fail to realize at times is that this far-right 🐂 💩 is global. Congratulations to the Dutch people. Hopefully we follow through and rid ourselves of some of this dreck on Tuesday. Vote YES on PA JUDGES!

Is this the first anti-democracy domino to fall in western democracies? Let’s hope so. I want to go back to a time when all mainstream parties in all democratic countries honor democracy.

Not entirely true, the 12 seats just went to other far-right parties like JA21 and FvD. With this amount of parties "won" isn't exactly a suitable term tbh and pro-EU is nothing special in NL.

It's true, the exit-poll has a +- of 1 seat, meaning that the pvv (the Dutch nazi/fascist party) can gain 1, the D66 can lose 1, wereby they both end up on 26. It can also be that D66 gains 1 and becomes the #1 indeed, putting the pvv down in 3d place. There's a problem getting a gvrnmnt......

another way to look at it is that there are roughly 32 seats worth of votes that are freely wandering through the many-party system, nearly 1/4. Yes they disappointedly left the failed cabinet parties, but they will just as well leave today's winners on a hunch. They are not bound/captured.

I wish people in the west would see that this is all part of Putin and Xi’s long term plan to divide and destroy us. They want Europe and the West to go back to ethnic division and petty squabbling among each other like the European of the previous millennium. Then they can rule the world.

D66+VVD+CDA+JA21 is not a far-right combination by any means, it's centre-right... Same shit would be PVV instead of D66. D66 - Socially very progressive economically centre-right VVD - Socially moderate conservative economically far-right CDA - Centrist in both JA21 - far-right in both

Around the world it seems the right is mostly being defeated by the centre but the result is centre right more than left and leaves door open. Can’t wait for a few nasty leaders to kick off and give the world some breathing room.

Let’s hope D66 will win. The Dutch where fed up with all the fighting and lying and this last gouvernement has stopped the Dutch machine, the country was on hold. D66 used Obama ‘s slogan: it ís possible! And I do hope we start working together again instead of all the polarization

Votes went from one far right party to another. The left had not gained anything. Nothing has changed in Dutch politics, because the majority doesn't understand that all our problems have been caused by the right wing politics that they keep voting for since 2002

America is showing the world how bad a right-wing nut bag can be. Ours was just convicted of 34 felonies and is included in a file kept by the biggest pedophile in our countries history.

The Netherlands has a long tradition of tolerance. They were a refuge for the Huguenots fleeing persecution in France in the 16th and 17th centuries. I am heartened to see them reclaim that tradition.

1) You're a good dude, Colin 2) There's not a literal translation but you could say: ik zal voor je duimen Interesting politics night for us dutchies, but also tiring. I REALLY REALLY hope Wilders party doesn't win. It's still possible. I would never vote for him. Ever.

Here you go.... Is it great minds think alike? bsky.app/profile/kyiv...

⚡️Dutch liberal party overtakes far-right nationalists in snap parliamentary election. The far-right Party for Freedom (PVV), whose leader Geert Wilders has argued against aid to Ukraine, lost nearly a third of its seats in parliament, according to exit polls.

We do, I spent my summers with French friends (still see them) and my hero, their father saved a fellow married friend because he was single and offered himself to the Nazi's. He's no longer with us due to ill health from forced labour but for him and many others I will always fight the right.

For many of us the memories are our driving force, the people we knew and respected that fought to keep us free from fascism. Those that support Reform and the right have no idea of what they are welcoming. They have no excuse as they ignore what is happening in America and it will only get worse.

It's always been a bit of a con when they say Wilders was winning Dutch elections , the PR political systems keep these far right lunatics in check, the real danger is to places like the UK with it's Undemocratic antiquated broken fptp system

Why does EU (in general) hate Russia (in general) so much? I live in the EU, and hate the current leadership of the EU; but that doesn't make me a Russophile... it makes me an independent thinker.

Honestly, when Trump was first elected, it was embarrassing, but I assumed we'd be able to move past it. Seeing the growth of the far-right around the world outside the US is when I started to get really scared. How would WWII have gone if just half of the Allies had been taken over by fascists?

With all the insanity caused by the Orange Thing, others county I are choosing the most pragmatic approach to deal with it. In our election, the CPC were in track changes take a landslide majority until the Orange Thing took office.

I think people across the world have figured out these far right parties are just the children of the Nazis looking for a second try. We need to end these far right Nazis for good like we should have done at the end of the Civil War and WWII.

I have been discussing this for a while with a few informed friends, but yours is the first post I've seen daring to state it publicly... 👏👏👏 for putting your head above the parapet 🙏

Excellent. Wilders is a bog standard far-white provocateur: he only has one trick, which is “blame it on immigrants”. Amazingly, when the problem is actually greedy corrupt rich people, blaming it on immigrants doesn’t actually fix anything.

So many comments on here don’t seem to understand how most EU democracies work. There are loads of parties and fragmentation. Nearly every government is a rainbow coalition. There is still a significant number of far right and right wing parties out there who can team up to control the government.

The bitter irony of giving voters a choice that’s more varied than “choose red or blue” is that it’s easier to get extreme views represented, but harder to have them take power due to the need to compromise constantly and team up with other parties. I’d say NL system is better than US, but still….

It remains lopsided to the right, if Wilders would actually want it, he'd have the leadership of the country. He wont want it. Thats the difficulty. 4 right parties - PVV, VVD, CDA, JA21 together have majority, could form a government, Its only Wilders' insufferability that prevents this.

far right defeated i wouldnt say. FVD +3 JA21 +8 (and they are pretty far out on the right side, even if they avoid the proletarian habitus). Thats alone all the -12 of Wilders. The PVV specifically has gotten bruised. But the numbers are still indicating extremist radicalisation on the right

My intuition says the same, but left-leaning Dutchies are still bummed out by the fact that far-right overall still has ~40 seats, and the D66 agenda is more conservative than before ( shifting Overton window in NL). We will see if D66 excludes all far right parties from the coalition.

The child who got the most reward points in school wasn't the well behaved, quiet student who handed their work in on time and well done, it was the disruptive, aggressive, shouting, truant, rewarded every time they complied. The right wing is rewarded for not being obnoxious & so bends the agenda.

With 99.7% of the vote counted, D66 is still ahead by 15,000 votes. It seems safe to say they've won. How did the Netherlands' most pro-EU party come out on top while the far-right PVV of Geert Wilders lost a third of their seats? I broke it down in my Substack column today:

davekeating.substack.comThe most pro-EU party just won big in the Dutch electionD66 had a surprise surge, tripling their seats in yesterday's Netherlands election—and its openly gay leader Rob Jetten is set to become prime minister.

By failing to mention that the 11 ex-PVV seats have all gone to other far right parties (including 6 seats for FvD which is *even more fascist* than PVV) you are creating the misconception that the Dutch have collectively rejected fascism and saved democracy. Please be more responsible.

The Dutch still love themselves some fascism despite the previous gov's many fuckups. No one should be feeling complacent or triumphant here, all of us need to fight more than ever.

On the “defeat” of the far right in the Netherlands 🇳🇱 The total number of far-right seats in the Tweede Kamer: 2021: 28 2023: 41 2025: 42 👈 And I don’t even count BBB here, which has radicalized significantly in the last year.
