Yes. If you need a content warning on pictures of food, then although I do feel for you, you should not be using social media. It is not a good place for you to be.

I’m sorry to be THAT monster, but if you need a content warning on pictures of food, I’m not sure « life » and « society » are safe places for you to be, let aside social media, and you should seek help.

Forget social media, how does this guy just...interact with the world generally? I'm not kidding. I can't imagine going to say, the grocery store if seeing food is THAT much of a trigger. And don't just say "oh get groceries delivered," because that'll just bring you to a website with pics of food

the guy who posted it isn't even bothered by food, he's doing it on behalf of a hypothetical person who might be he made up a guy and then got mad at everyone else for him

I left mastodon bc it was genuinely upsetting to me to have all food CW'd, treating food as a bad thing is actually bad for my brain, but hey, can't have nuance and variety on social media, can you?

Yeah, one thing that I’ve learned from having eating disorders is that all food is good and useful food, and if you’re having trouble eating, you should eat whatever steams, appetizing, and contributing to a culture of shame around food doesn’t necessarily help people who are struggling to eat more.

generally I'm not a big fan of the implication that individuals have the same responsibility to anyone who randomly follows them that platforms or publications have to their userbase. nor am I thrilled with the conflation of accessibility with a right to never be annoyed with anyone online.

His logic was "vegans might not like meat and people with eating disorders might not like food". Afterwards he claimed he "intentionally" provoked people to "gather data on trolls for a social science experiment", which I assume is his version of "I was just pretending to be stupid".

OK, as a person with a history of disordered eating, I have genuinely had trouble with pictures of food at times. This isn’t a made up thing. However, I agree that it’s a common-enough, everyday topic that it shouldn’t need a content warning.
