The world must boycott the World Cup and the Olympics. It is both the only moral choice and will actually get the attention of these dead-eyed clout demons.

National teams should agree to only play at Canadian and Mexican sites. That would make a real statement to the rest of the world as they refuse to cross the border, and embarrass Trump. Some will cross, and he will still crown the “winner.” Bonus: FIFA president Infantino will look like an idiot.

We can barely get countries to disallow Israel's sports teams at a handful of events after their government turned Gaza into glass The world isn't gonna do shit about this beyond making a few disapproving statements. And I hate that so, so much

Sorry to tell you guys, but the world has given up on the United States already. Nobody is coming to help you. If you want to fix things, step one might be to find a young, charismatic and intelligent opposition leader.

Money runs the World Cup and the Olympics, not morals. But don't fret because this is a green light for other countries to do the same. Trump will set the world on fire before being held accountable for his crimes. We are pawns in the demented fantasies of a madman. #EpsteinFiles #Venezuela

Boycott the World Cup. Boycott the World Cup. Absolutely Incompetent Administration. Release The Epstein Files. Fight Fascism With Everything You Have. Freedom, Liberty, and Democracy will Prevail. #Freedom #Liberty #Democracy #Fight #Fascism #taco #Epstein #WorldCup

I've loved the Olympics most of my life. In 1984 I was the weird nerd in 6th grade who wore USA Olympics stuff every day. I'm a non-sports person 95% of the time, but I would watch every Olympic event if I could. And I can't imagine watching it in the US this year. The world must boycott.

And this doesn't have to mean harming the athletes! There are Olympic venues all the hell over. Pick one and redirect the athletes there! Who cares if it's not ideal for tourism, they could still fulfill the spirit of the games. Non-garbage Americans could even compete under the Olympic flag.

Do we really think the people in charge would give a damn about a World Cup boycott? In their eyes its "only soccer". The IOC maybe, but hard to know where things will be in 2+ years.

If not the nations of the world then certainly the people of the world need to show up by not showing up... Turn collective backs on a corrupt and violent Trump. Refuse to buy American goods, refuse to travel to the US

The U.S. is functionally now a pariah state and must be treated as such until the cancer rotting out the heart of the White House is cut out.

US politics are chaotic, guided by extremists and driven by monetized misinformation. I'm afraid that the rest of the world will not change it's opinion just because the trump admin is out of power. The next one could be much worse, not better.

Almost every other country in the world is quietly hoping that the US gets its arse kicked at least enough that it doesn't keep doing this.

As much as I despise Trump and his minions, I have nothing but respect for the lethality and ability to execute the mission of our military forces. What's happening to Russia in Ukraine won't happen in Venezuela. This war must be stopped at home.

I can only hope that the rot has set in in the US military, and they find a way to fuck it up. I have no respect for military forces who execute illegal missions of aggression.

yes, the problem with the U.S. is absolutely also with the people and not merely with Trump, but I once again made the foolish mistake of not stating every single one of my opinions in a single word-restricted social media microblogging post

do you want every single one of my takes explained in great and nauseating detail or do you want to use a microblogging website? because some of you seem to be confused about how these two things cannot actually coexist

A lot of people are replying to this with some version of “oh ho ho, but no one boycotted the Cup in Qatar or the Olympics in Russia and China, what’s the point?” the fact that people all too often have the ethics of swine does not mean it is thus stupid and naive to demand better anyway

I mean I’m sorry but yes, we should get the sanctions, we should be the ones who can’t travel or use banks and have to blow to foreign tourists for cash. Even if it doesn’t happen, we should assume that’s what’s in store for us if we don’t extract the country from the grip of these fucking goblins

But what americans have to acknowledge is this "cancer" is in them. The guy in the white house is the one they wanted. He is just the picture of who they are as a people. Cuting it out is therefore not that simple at all. Even elections won't do it.

Yup, everything that is happening is fully within our history, it’s just that nobody got taught Reconstruction and Redemption/Jim Crow in school to understand this is Redemption 2.0 (now including gender) and a return to the systems of slavery/oppression that the south lost the war over.

I do in fact understand this, but of course, this is Bluesky and I understand that means everyone here is contractually obliged to assume everybody else here is both tragically under-educated and Bad

In LA we don’t even WANT to host the Olympics. They’re using it as an excuse to further militarize the police and criminalize homeless people so they can get rid of them to make LA appear “clean” for all the visitors. It’s heinous

The IOC must hold an emergency meeting today or tomorrow at the latest. From there, they must discuss about moving the Olympics to a city that can do the job on short notice. Namely, it should be one of the most recent hosts. I prefer Tokyo.

Not the World Cup … Trump has no plan but wants the adoration of what FIFA brings … Brazil withdraws from the World Cup would devastate it and Trump … far too many commenting as if Trump has a plan ..

personally, 'boycotted' - not watched - Soccer World cup, 2-3 last tournees Reasons: not even human rights; player safety/conditions('+30'C &more..); 'co-Businesses'; or even Fifa(corruption) -> It just gotten so boring. (Thgh, all said matter) Yet, no belief the 'exclusions' in sports w much effect

A group of friends want to get together for the World Cup in one of the cities. I’ve explained that I will go wherever they want, but I refuse to go to any of the games, will happily play golf or do something else while they’re giving FIFA their patronage.

I think that's going to be a tough sell. If people cared more about human rights and morals over sports, the governing bodies would not be the most corrupt international organizations around. And people have bought tickets, booked vacation etc a long time ago. But it would be lovely!

I love the World Cup more than anything in the world. Anything. Anything. And I agree. It needs to be boycotted or moved. Or, better yet, the administration and its garbage puppets should be purged with Zlatan fire.

No one boycotted the Qatari slave cup, at this point I don't think people are actually physically capable of "voting with their wallets"

You'd think it'd be the easiest thing in the fucking world to boycott - it's expensive, it takes a lot of energy for travel, it's a thing that happens every 4 years... And yet.

The world should boycott but make the decision as late as possible so corrupt FIFA can’t get replacements, ideally teams should simply fail to turn up to matches and leave the sight of stadiums with no teams on the pitch. Infantino’s corruption has ruined the sport

Zero chance. F1 has literally no morals. If Kim Jong Un offered them a fat hosting fee, there would be a Pyongyang GP on the calendar.

Yep. At the rate they're going, a secret police force will be as much of a prerequisite as a grade 1 circuit in 5 years.

It’s more the profitability. The only one that’s fallen off in the last 5 years is France other than Russia which went for obvious reasons. Spa for example makes a loss nearly every year.

I’ll expand on that: Nations boycotting the World Cup should schedule friendlies with the Venezuelan national teams* throughout that entire month. *Men’s AND women’s, and maybe even U-18s, so as not to run the Venezuelans into exhaustion playing 2-3 games a week for four weeks straight.
